I was just wondering why AVI2SVCD bothers with conversion from MPA to WAV format using madplay, and then from WAV to MP2 using BeSweet? As far as I know, BeSweet supports direct conversion of MPA to MP2, so, why the extra step?

Thanks in advance for reply.

Maybe just a case of if-it-ain't-broke-don't-fix-it. But I'm sure D2S has a good enough reason. It's not like it really matters, though...

Well, it only matters from the time point of view. That is, it takes time to convert MPA file into WAV. It's not so noticable with the short flics or anime, but when doing feature length movies, or 2-4 hour movies, the time involved in extra step is somewhat more noticable. I just think the same thing that applies to AC3 stream, can be applied to MPA stream, that's all.

In principle you right, of course. However Besweet is more sensitive to errors than MADPlay, therefore I made it so that whenever the audio was extracted from an AVI (and is MPA) I always use MADPlay first. That way I save myself a lot of grief and a lot of other users grief who is stranded with no audio. And you know who they mail to when the audio is missing ;)

OK, now I understand. Thanks for the info.
