Hi, I've just discovered this nice codec ...
On the official site there's no documentation.
Can someone tell me what are the major improvements over Divx 5.05?
thanks

Read What is DivX Labs? (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55220) (and follow the link there) for more info.

This site looks very intesting to me. Recently, DivX has released it's developments in fairly large steps (6 months - 1 year for codec featureset improvements). Now we might see weekly updates from the "labs".
Now all the major codecs have a VHQ/EHQ mode, although DivX calls it a "rate distortion algorithm" (a somewhat generic term). It seems like a certain performance ceiling has been reached and people are trying to find ways to throw CPU at the encoding problem to get quality improvements. Next step - try to get xHQ quality by using new, improved heuristics learnt from the xHQ work (in other words make it faster!).
The only problem I can see with the labs is that performance increases now are pretty small. A 1dB PSNR improvement is just about visible, but probably won't be noticed even in a doom9-style codec shootout. So how do we know if the new stuff is any good?
