i know they overwrite each other when upgrading,
the reason is that i want to start running tests on these to see which is the better one, to post on my website, pretty much a codec shootout like doom9, but only with divx, i hear many ppl saying which is the best, but its all about the picture baby, so that is what i want to see, what does the picture look like. "SHOW ME THE MONEY"

No it's not easily possible or advisable to do this on a single boot system!

If you are that serious about comparing codecs or just worried that some codecs might clash with others, then do what I do.

Get yourself a 40 or 60Gig hard drive and create 5 or 8 equal 'boot' partitions on it.

That way you can muck about experimenting with all kinds of codecs and dodgy applications to your hearts content and when the O/S in one partition becomes unstable, you just move on to the next!

There's virtually no difference between 5.0.4 and 5.0.5, 5.0.4 had a bug with some capturing programs which was fixed in 5.0.5.

i knew somebody knew it was possible,
so lets say for example i run these test and upload like a
500kb clip of each encoded clip for ppl to actually view it
they wont be able to view it becouse i modified my dll file
for the diffrent versions.:D

There is actually a good probability they will be able to see it since the file actually has 2 fourcc codes. The one you modify to make this work will be first and the divx one will be 2nd. Our decoder should see this and it should work fine, however I can't remember this 100% but you can test this or to be absolutely sure just download Avic.exe and then open the avi file and change the fourcc on top to 'divx' and leave the bottom one the same. This will definitely work.

dammit it dont work,
well it was worth a try
what i did after a reformat
i installed divx5.0 first
made sure it shows up in virtualdub, it does
then i regedit rename to di50.DIVX as name and modified the data so that it says di50.dll
checked back in virtual dub and it was gone, i could not get it back until i renamed it back to the original.any ideas?
