nice projector for $999

800x600, with vga/s-video/composite inputs, lamp should last 3000 hrs. max image: 6.5 (!!) meters diagonal. there could be cheaper models, i didn't investigate the issue. i just bumped into this one and it sounded cool to me.

as an interesting discussion, did u ever use a projector for your dvd or personal encodings playback? what models? how was it? what factors should one consider when searching for a projector for playback? does it fit well into a living room? what about lighting conditions?

Direct view and rear projection tvs can never compare to a nice projector. With a projector you actually get that "at the theater" experience--depending on your stereo of course. All your (high quality) material will look better since you can use higher display resolutions. If you do your research, you should be pleased with the experience. good luck

yes i used my dads projector for a few video nights playing both DVDs and divx/xvid files. personally i think that on a projector you can hardly notice the difference between a good xvid/divx encode and the original DVD. for sound, we've head i think one of the best audio setups possible (at least from my student experience) - perhaps somebody knows the name Bose. well we had a 5.2 (yes that is two woofers) and sound was just perfect. anyway you could definitely hear the difference between 5.1 ac3 and stereo mp3 @ 128/160. unfortunately the projector is not at home atm so i can't check the model, but it was a Sony we used. lighting conditions are a bit difficutlt but the more you are willing to spend on a projector the better results you'll get. if you have a very bright room and are watching a rather bright movie you'll have a few difficulties i'd say (:

DVI input will yield the best results if you have a DVI out on your graphics board! edit: and of course are using a computer for playback! :D
