I'm trying to rip music DVD's, and everyone works except one I got yesterday. It appears to start and then hangs. This is the contents of a John Denver DVD wich works :

Looks quite different. I've also tried ripping it with FLASKMpeg and Dr. Divx, nothing works. So I gather it must be the DVD right? How can I solve this problem? Thanks in advance.

you've provided us with no information to help us solve your problem. What are you using to rip the dvd? what are you trying to do with it once converted? is there a log file of any sort? did you check the dvd for scratches or dirt? what are your system specs? help us help you! we're not mindreaders.

Is this even a DVD2SVCD topic

Sorry for late reply guys.

Is this even a DVD2SVCD topic
Yes, I'm using DVD2SVCD 1.1.3 Build 2 to rip the DVD.

Sorry, I just don't have a lot to go on. Let me explain a little better if possible. I put in a DVD which works, e.g. John Denver, deselect all the chapters and then just select one chapter to rip. Next I press Go and select Rip only. It then prepares the vob files and rip the required file(s). A few minutes later a dialog box appears, stating ripping is complete. This is the log :

Now I put in the Randy Travis DVD, and follow the same procedure as for the John Denver DVD (it is a brandnew disc, no scratches, etc).

As soon as it starts with the 2nd vob file, the program hangs. So I thought ok, maybe it's the chapter, will try a different one. It doesn't even then starts to rip...hangs straight away.

In the meantime, I've found an application which rips this DVD without problems (No 1 DVD Ripper 1.2.03 http://www.dvdtox.com). I guess I could use this, but I prefer DVD2SVCD. System specs are AMD Athlon XP 2.1, 512 DDR RAM

I have had trouble like this myself. Using DVD2SVCD, the ripping process would either suffer from read errors, or just hang in the middle of the rip. I could not solve it.

Then - someone on another board suggested that I try another DVD drive. So I replaced by Pioneer DVD-115 with another one that I had - a newer Pioneer DVD-117. The 117 ripped the disk just fine.

It would seem that some DVD drives have problems with some disk encodings. The ones that I find the hardest to read are Warner Music titles.

I don't know if they are playing with various copy protection schemes, or if it is just a minor incompatibility in standards. Either way - moving to a different DVD drive solved my problem. Cost $50.

most of the time it is hardware problems or the disc you are trying to rip is screwed up. I don't see anything in your log to indicate that DVD2SVCD is not acting properly. you might try taking out the DVD and giving it a nice shower :)

In my case, I went through THREE versions of the SAME disk, and had the same problem each time, at similar (but not same) places on the disk - always within the same VOB.

I can believe that one disk was dirty, but not three.

Not all disks behave in all players. The odd one will have a problem. Hence my suggestion - if you have access to another DVD reader, try ripping the disk on that. If it will rip on another reader, then you know the problem is with your drive.

I've just noticed from the logs. The 1st one (which works) starts with this :

WNASPI32.DLL 4.6.0.1021
Key found: EE73433CAF
--------------------------------------------------------
- 12/06/2003 13:22:02
- DVD to SVCD Conversion
- DVD2SVCD ver. 1.1.3 build 2
--------------------------------------------------------
Initializing
Initializing finished.

The 2nd (non-working) starts this way :

WNASPI32.DLL 4.6.0.1021
--------------------------------------------------------
- 12/06/2003 13:31:24
- DVD to SVCD Conversion
- DVD2SVCD ver. 1.1.3 build 2
--------------------------------------------------------
Initializing
Initializing finished.

No key found, but the other rip program rips it fine. This doesn't make sense :(

why dont you do what any normal persion would do !

rip the dvd to hdd with some other ripping software Like

Smart ripper or DVD decrypter or No1 DVD ripper

then open the main INFO file with DVD2SVCD and convert that way.

if that wont work then i dunno what to try. :p :p

Also try to play the DVD in a software DVD player on your comp before you rip it. Sometimes this will unlock the DVD and then DVD2SVCD will be able to find the key.
