My first question was, where to post it... I will try it here, because it is important to me to stay MPEG-4 compliant.
Is there a MPEG-4 standard to use chapters yet? I know that there is the MicroDVDPlayer solution, but only usable with this player. But I want to have chapters for all players available. I heard something about a Vidom AVI Enhanced solution, which includes chapters to the AVI, but to be honest I do not like Vidomi.
PS: There is a cross post in the Player section. Because I do not expect to get an quick answer there, I will link the thread there to this one.

The ogm format provides support for chapter information. Progs such as DVD Decrypter can generate the chapter lists automatically during ripping :)

Thanks for the fast answer! :D
I worked with OGM 1 year ago, and when cutting I got bad cuts. Some frames were deleted, they were simply missing. And after muxing the picture got a bit blurry. So I never used it again. ;)
Nevertheless, if it is possible to have chapters with OGM, it should be possible to have AVI chapters supported by filter too. A filter like Milan's FFDSHOW filter???

You should read this thread if you don't know it already:

i guess in this context it is interesting if there is a way to use chapters in the .mp4 container?

@bilu
Thanks for the link! Haven't read it! My problem, if you like to call it like this ;) , I encode very often to 2 CDs and that is why I need an accurate split function. Downloaded the newest OggMux 0.9.5.0 version and I read at the Output settings that it is not keyframe-accurate and that files can start with a stall picture. The same I experienced with the version 0.9.4.1 last year. But I will give it a try. Hopefully it will give me decent results.
Do you know OggMuxer?

I think it splits on the keyframe, haven't had any problems yet.

VirtualDubMod is perfect for OGM container:
- Mux
- Demux
- Split...
Give It A Try.

well, many rips done in ogm via vdubmod and splitting always worked fine with chapters. it also has an option to set keyframe on chapters in the stats file before doin' 2nd pass, but i haven't tested it :rolleyes:
