mpeg2(VOB) transcoder

hi having completed, the dvd decryption part of my app,
i would like to have a go at trying to write some code to
compress the video data in the vob files. could someone please
point me to some source code. or good tutorials

i want to reconstruct the information into a smaller video object(VOB) or just output a compressed m2v file that can later be remuxed with the audio.
