converted mpg file->want to edit

(I hope I'm right here...Didn't found a suitable forum for that..)

NO it's not a SVCD or anything else to *.avi convertion!!!!!!!!
IT'S a already converted *.mpg file (don't knwo the codec..)

(for all details read all, for the layz guys question at the buttom)

I've got a 3 mpg files from a friend.
Noticed that they are 800MB each. whole size is 2,31 GB!!!!
Ok thought cut them. Managed to open them with Avisynth and VD.

But hell I could kick that guy....I don't know how he made this but it's a nightmare....
the whole movie lenght is 2:24:20
splitted up in 3 files with 47-48 min each. (ok why not?!)
but they are 800MB big and he didn't crop!!!
the resulution is 480*480!! you can crop at top and buttom a value of 104!!!
so the "real" size of the movie is 480*272.

Damn I could pack a 2h movie with a way better resolution into 800MB!!!
But he needed 2,31 GB for that *$§`%&!"=%$*

noticed that you can't crop with VD (right?)
Also can't crop with TMPEG (right?)

After some search I found Vidomi.
(trouble is staring)
Managed to crop the video, but I could not process the audio!!!
If you do only some sec the audio is ok, but if you do the whole
the sound is like as you press the fastforward and the play buttom form your old
cassette recorder and the same time...damn...
Why??? tried to switch the sound format but it gives me an error when I try to use
mp3. -> "Could not create audio stream...."

ok converted it into Xvid without audio...
De-Multiplexed it with TMPEG to get the audio stream...
converted the *.mp2 file into *.wav with sound forge 6.
result: 3 avi and wav files.

Fired up my VD and Multiplexed each file with it's audio file. worked fine.

way 1:
Merged the three avi files to one with VD/ND...hell they got unsynch...
it's getting worse to the end. so not offset will help.....

way 2:
merged the three *avi files which i get from vidomi (no sound)
merged the three*. wav files with sound forge 6
tried to merge this into a whole file with VD/ND
same result -> unsynch!!!

wy3:
tried to open the *.mpg files with Xmpeg to crop and convert but I can't open it!!



So how can I crop(important) and convert(DivX, Xvid) a already converted movie in mpg into a avi file!!!!
Details:
3 files 800MB each
mpg files (codec unknown)
2.31 GB whole
2:24:20 time
480*480 reslution -> not croped

wanted result:
avi file (divx)
480*272 -> croped
gonna place it on 2 700MB CD's


Any Ideas???

You may not have SVCD disc images, but I believe you have SVCD audio and video streams.

480x480 MPEG-2 is the standard video stream for NTSC Super VideoCD.. 800MB of this (with MP2 audio) will fit on an 80 minute CD-R, when burned as an SVCD image. You cannot burn these as data CDs, which only hold 700MB.

(You didn't mention the framerate, but I'll bet it's 29.97fps. And your video codec is probably MPEG-2, and your audio codec is probably MPEG 1 layer 2. That's what the standard calls for.)

SVCD images do not have square pixels; so SVCD players will adjust the aspect ratio to 4:3 upon playback. The encoded letterboxing, when played at 4:3, will "restore" the widescreen image.

I don't recommend re-encoding these streams, as you will likely not be happy using them as sources for conversion. However, if you insist, I recommend following Doom9's SVCD->AVI conversion guide, however much you insist these aren't SVCDs.

Damn! I bet that it is SVCD, pardon, 3 SVCD!

Can't crop with Virtual Dub? You are first who 'discovered' it :D .

It goes usually: DVD2AVI, AVISynth, V Dub.

But you can even do video with DVD2AVI 1.76 - there is crop, resize.
But better with Gordian Knot.
For audio - play a little with Besweet...

If it is a mpeg file it is possible to use flaskmpeg to convert it to avi. I did this once when i was first learning how everythig operates. Perhaps it is a SKVCD form one of the e-donkey sites. These things are a pain in the *&%# to convert because they are not standard. Mainconcept Mpeg encoder does a Ok job on them but be warned they are a low bitrate encode to start with.

If you're looking for a tool to create SVCD images from your .mpg files, you can use bbMPEG. If you have Nero, I believe that, while it is less flexible, it may be able to create SVCD images from SVCD-compliant .mpg streams.

If you'd like to try bbMPEG, Doom9 has a number of guide pages that include steps that use it. Here is one example (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/bbmpeg.htm). It isn't an exact match, of course, but it may help you get started.

Or try the MPEG Mediator (Special Edition). I think, that's the tool you will need to encode all three SVCD's (~2,4 GB) to one smaller AVI ! :)

But look, you have an encoded movie, so the result will be a little bit worser than the original encoded SVCD ! :o

A stable and "beta" Version, but only the new features are "unstable" or buggy ! :)
But today I don't know any big problems with the public beta ! :D

yeah sure :)

this tool is quite well but I ended up as before.
with an avi file and a sound file (wav or mp3)
just like the other methods before. because I can't process the mpg files. MPEG Mediator (Special Edition) gave me and error thar those files have no mpeg stream...
so you can only process mpeg streams...which i had from demuxing with tmpeg....
Like i said you have one avi file without sound...
and now comes the trouble..I can't get this synch!!!

So because those files are SVCD copies you can't convert those into avi without getting unsynch files....
The best way is, like jggimi said is to burn those files as a SVCD.
And this is what I'm going to do...

Of course that it can be converted to AVI, and keep audio sync.
I made it couple times before, with success.
Make DVD2AVI project - it will extract audio as MP2. You can convert that audio on several ways to MP3. HeadAc3he can directly convert it, but it's possible that it will not accept that MP2 file.
I used Winamp to decode MP2 to WAV (output file mode), then converted to MP3 with Lame.
Video can convert with Gordian Knot for example (from DVD2AVI project file). Then mux audio and video with Nandub or AVIMux. It must be synced.

I did exactly the same! but without any good result...
I don't do this for the first time!

To save trouble I decided to burn this as a SVCD and it worked great.
Remember those files are a SVCD copy (kust copied to HD form SVCD) and this was the thing which I didn't know as I got the files.

Can you play those MPG files with some software DVD player? Or you can install Elecard Mpeg2 codec and try with Media Player.
Is then audio and video in sync?

the original files (the SVCD) copies are synch, no problem.

the compressed mpg files into avi are unsynch after convertion and muxing....
With a DVD player software, it won't work couze they are compressed with the divx codec in avi and ypu can't open it (or am I wrong?)
So this trick won't help ;)

that's what I've done. without tim mention that I've tried some other methods with GuardianKnot and MPEG Mediator...

But's all over guys.. I've burned them with Nero as SVCD and it worked fine!
