View Full Version : Can't get XCD to work

I recently tried to use XCD. I downloaded both the Riff CD/XA filters and the GUI off of the guide.

Here's my problem. I follow what the guide says: use media file button to put in ogm, file button for subtitles and the rest. I save the image to a convenient folder and I write the ISO.

After burning the image with Nero, I flip in the disc into my DVD drive and try to open the dat file with WMP. No dice, says invalid or corrupt. I go to Zoom Player, try to open up the dat file. Again same message. I have ffdshow and I install the Riff CD/XA filters. I kept re-installing them just to make sure.

And still no dice on the XCD. What am I doing wrong?

try to mount the image with daemon tools 1st, and check if it's working. if it does, that you didn't burn good. if it doesn't, give us more details. os, etc. you can also try graphedit.

Okay, mounting with Daemon Tools caused it to work. So I'm guessing it's time for the rest of the stuff.

OS: Windows XP Pro
RAM: 512 MB
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2100+
Video Card: Geforce 4 Ti 4600
XviD codec: Nic's (latest version)
Yes, I have ffdshow and the ogm filters. Yes the riff/cd filters are installed.

I was using Nero to burn the images. My version of Nero is 5.5.10.15 and this is the first time I've ever had burning problems. It burns S/VCD images with no problem.

Why isn't it burning right now?

Neither soultions in that thread work. I tried the reduced speed, I got nadda. And I tried selecting the bin file instead of the cue and burning mode 2, and my DVD drive STILL can't read it.

You are creating an XCD with mixed content: Mode2 (movie) as well as Mode1 (subs).
In this case, uncheck the "single track" option in the GUI before creating the image.

I had a similar case a few days ago. However, although I could not play the movie, I was able to read it back to HD with 'dat2file'.

The only thing I'm using is one media file (ogm). No subtitles, no extra files, nada.

Sorry, I thought you also put data-files on the disk, because of your comment:

Did you try to mount the image in daemon tools (that works, you said) and then perform a "disk-copy" on-the-fly from that virtual drive?
I have never done it another way, and so I've burnt about 200 Mode2-CDs without one single failure (apart from the last two, as I said. But since I can get the stuff off that CDs also, it's not a real failure ;) )

Did you try using dat2file to convert the dat 2 file?
Are you then able to play it in mediaplayer?

Please clarify:

If you're mounting the image with daemon-tools, you can open the dat-file with mediaplayer, when putting the CD in the drive, you can't?

Is that right?

Maybe it was just a burning failure, happens from time to time...
Maybe retry it?! You're not about 796MB, are you?

I have not tried disk-copying it from Daemon tools yet. So far as I can tell it is a problem solely with Nero, as avih suggested. I'll try that last two suggestions when I get a chance and tell you the results.
