I have a ricoh 5125a and i think its satisfactiry to me. However, due to the fact that some newer xbox will not play +r disk, I am thinking about buying a dvd-r drive. However, I want to retain the speed of quick erasing of +rw. I wonder if a -r drive can do that. Also, what speed do you guys burn at? I have heard as the cost of 2x or 4x disk is substaintially higher than 1x, and people tend to buy 1x or 2x media to save some cost. How much is a 2x -r media? Is it comparable to a cheapest +r disk that can still be written at 2.4x?

When you burn your DVD+R's, do you set the book type to DVD-ROM? If not, doing so might solve your xbox problem.

I prefer +RW media myself. With the book type set to DVD-ROM, they seem to play well on everything. And if I screw up on authoring, etc., I just erase it and start over. No coasters!

The xbox issue has been confirmed. Older v1.0 xboxes reads dvd+r/rw ,dvd-r/rw, cd-rw but no cd-r. These drives are made by Thompson and later v1.1 drives can read only dvd-r/rw, cd-r, and cd-rw and are made by samsung.

Its weird simce ms has said they will support +r/rw in their next os but they seem not in their own video game console?

Hi there,

try this article:

http://www.dvdplusrw.org/resources/bitsettings.html.

As I have also MP5125a (HP DVD200i) I´m not 100% sure but I guess that -RW media could be quickly erased.

And the price of cheap DVD-R 2x is little bit lower than DVD+R. But +R are 2.4x so in my opinion it is 1:1 :).
