Those are NOT Maxell DVD-R !!! But the worse crap DVD-R I ever bought :(
Same issue than fake TDK manufactured by Princo.
The sad thing is that online store like Supermediastore, Meritline, cdrdvdrmedia, etc, all know that they are selling crap.
They all know that these DVD-R are fake, and they are making a HUGE profit on the sales ! (I bet they don't pay more than 50 cents per DVD-R)...
I wish someone could sue them for "false advertising"

Yeah I learned this the hard way, they're pulling a monumental scam with those discs. If you order these don't even expect a limited success rate. I haven't been able to get single useable disc out of about a dozen completely different attempts. Look at the bright side though, they can be used as:
A) Coasters
B) Frisbee's
C) Steak Knives, the edges cut my finger so I think you could use them to cut beef. Har Har.

Go and rate these damn companies and let others know they are a SCAM. I tried to look before ordering but didnt see anyone saying anything bad. Also, bombard these companies and let them know you know they are a scam.
My personal experience was with Meritline and they are horrible!!!

Just noticed that:
Supermediastore.com
Meritline.com
cdrdvdrmedia.com
ALL removed the brand name "MAXELL" from their web.
They still sell the crappy DVD-R under "media-pro" or "noname" brand
for about $1.5 per DVD-R
What a scam when you can buy a HIGH QUALITY TDK DVD-R x2 a $1.89 piece at BestBuy.com... with free shipping !!! And those are the real one, not the fake ;)
Avoid those 3 company.

I am sorry to hear about your experiences, but this was discussed here in this very forum: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=52618 . And apparently at least Meritline offered a full refund.
