the reason i am trying to get soft encode to work is that i have a pioneer dvd player and it wont play dvd's that i produce using besweet(any ideas on this would be great).
so i tryed changing to soft encode. however, here is what i am doing:
extracting the audio using nandub in the usual way(direct stream copy) so i have a file called audio.wav have tryed caling it audio.ac3 as well.
this is supposedly uncompressed but when i try loading it into soft encode it comes back with an error saying it might be compressed and it can only use uncompressed pcm data.
i am stuck someone please help

you obviously ignored the forum rules and didn't read the audio faq before posting, namely q15.

well ive already tryed what it says to do in q15
audio -> direct stream copy
file -> save WAV
rename the resulting file from xxx.wav to xxx.ac3 (or xxx.mp3)
as for this bit:
If the file isn't accepted by any other software as a valid AC3/MP3 file, it's because Nandub puts a wav-header to the extracted file, which not all apps can handle. To correct this, drag the wave file into BeSliced and select the correct filetype (AC3/MP3/etc').
i read the guide and it said that when i drop it on besliced it should come up with dummy and fix file and i should choose fix file and it will give me xxx-fixed.ac3 but it doesnt. just comes up with ac3,aac,mp3 so i click on ac3 and nothing happens.
dsp guru why won't besweet work with pioneer players??
thanks

just tryed it again to make sure im not going mad but still doesnt work even with your suggestions.
saved xxx.wav
dragged onto besliced
selected ac3
empty notepad comes up
try opening with soft encode doesnt like.

i'm sorry if this might seem quite basic to some of you guys but if the faq's dont work then obviously ppl will keep on posting the same question over and over

Hey feeky...
If I remember right you actually need to set the audio mode to 'full processing mode' otherwise you will only extract an encoded .wav. Give that a try and I bet ya Soft Encode will take it. BTW-I don't remember every seeing any of those guides suggest you use 'direct stream copy' I thought they all read w/ 'full processing mode'... I might have missed it though. :)
However get ready to wait; soft encode takes FOREVER to product your .ac3.
Hope that helps,

cheers for the suggestion.
tryed it but nandub came back with error 'acm failed to suggest audio decompression format' then ' avioutputwave: the handle is invalid'.
after selecting full processing mode i also tryed going into compression and clicking on pcm no compression but still no joy
any other ideas
also i just tryed avi2wav as guru suggested and under file info it said my file was audio format: DVM. ?
anyone know what this is, the file shows as ac3 in gspot

Got me on that one. No idea what DVM is. This may be redundant, but have you tried the same process for extracing your .wav file while using VirtualDub? I used NanDub the other day w/ 'full processing mode' and it actually wouldn't extract my file correctly... I had to use VirtualDub to get it right. It's worth a shot. You should be able to download VirtualDub here in the downloads sections.
Good luck, hope that works.

different errror this time anyway
'no audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format'
i dont know i might have to resort to just using mp2 audio but i like ac3 it sounds so much better and i get extra lights come up on my amp. te hee

As far as I know, Softencode only accept wav input, assumably only mono-waves (never used it...)
So you will have to create 6 waves out of your ac3 (which you can demux with nandub with direct stream copy like you did it already).
You can use Besweet for that purpose...
But if I understand you right, then your avi already has ac3 sound?
Why would you use Softencode then?
You can just use the demuxed ac3-stream (you maybe have to remove the wav header added by nandub using besliced)...
Use GSpot to find out if your avi has ac3 or not, or look if the ac3filter of intervideo audio decoder is loaded during playback.

so youre saying just extract the file from nandub and do the besliced fix and then its ready to author with my video file?
ill give it a shot and post results

Yep, that's what I'm saying, but of course only if your avi has ac3-audio...
Use GSpot to find out...

right
gspot says:
'ac3 (0x2000) Dolby Laboratories, Inc'
'448 kb/s (89/ch x 5 ch) CBR '
'48000 Hz'
so im pretty certain that this file is ac3.
i did what you said and extracted file using nandub
i saved the file as 'audio.ac3' is this right?
then tryed to drag and drop file into besliced
selected ac3
nothing..... not a god damn thing
well just an empty notepad file still has .wav at the end (audio.ac3.wav)
im struggling

I have version 0.2 of Besliced (find it in the audio-faq), and when I drop a file with the extension ac3 on it, then I can choose either dummy or fix it!
And if I choose fix it, then I get another ac3-file...
Did you try with this version?
feeky1973

yep
yet ive never got the dummy fix file option
just a list like ac3,aac,mp3 etc
why does it work for everyone else

You have the latest version from this page, right?
http://besplit.doom9.org/
Well, thats funny...
Anyway...
First thing: Try if your authoring software accepts the ac3 the way it is...
Second thing: Try to use Virtualdubmod, open the avi, go to the stream list, select the ac3, and demux...
This should add no wav-header (not sure about it though), if your authoring solution doesn't accept it, try to beslice that...

Normally, yes, but you should see the path in the log-file anyway...
Maybe you should post your log-file...

i use spruce up and came back with error about wrong format
Second thing: Try to use Virtualdubmod, open the avi, go to the stream list, select the ac3, and demux...
tryed this still no joy even after beslicing it.
Maybe you should post your log-file...
thats the notepad that comes up after you click fix file right?
if so mine is completely empty

The executable and the .ac3 or .wav have to be in the same directory to be able to work or fix ac3 header.
