View Full Version : Question about number of CD's

Although I'm new to dvd2svcd I've used it a few times and its worked well. I just made a backup of one of my movies that was 1h55mins and a few seconds and according to the bitrate tab it should have been on 3 cd's not 2 which is what it converted it to.

Edit - I just looked at the log and cce shows 6921.83seconds of video which comes out to 1:15mins. How do I prevent the converstion tab from getting the length wrong? After looking at the Conversion tab where it says Movie Length it says 1:55:00, but if I click the drop down arrow it says "length of selected chapters" 114:59. So I'm a bit confused here because I've been using the "movie length" to determine how to set numbers in the bitrate tab should I not be doing that and rely on the what the drop down box says instead?

but if I click the drop down arrow it says "length of selected chapters" 114:59 Always use this as this is decimal, i.e, One hundred fourteen minutes and 59 seconds which is what the bitrate tab uses. The time mentioned in the movie length is hours:minutes:ss. Don't get too redfaced, this has confused a lot of new folks over the years. Just slapping yourself in the forehead once or twice will do fine :)

Oops. I guess I had a brain fart there :) 1h:55m is indeed 115m which is what the dropdown arrow said.:o I guess I just wasn't understanding for a second there.

I'm hoping I can also ask a quick question about Bitrates as well. I've read the beginning and advanced guides but I guess I'm just looking for a little reinforcement on what I'm doing.

Since my movie was 1h15m it appears on the bubble for plainjane 2cd backup. Normally for a quick backup taking those numbers I would edit the 100-125 minutes row and change it to say 116. That's works fine but where I get confused is say I want to go for a higher quality bitrate and I set the 100-125 row to 100-114 thus going from 2 to 3 cds and allowing for a higher bitrate. So saying I did that and now it says 114-163 in the tab below which is now for a 3cd backup how far do I go lower than 163 till it won't work? I know there is a checkbox for "warn if bitrate it too high", so should I just keep going from 163 down until the warning goes away and then let it rip?

fyi I use CCE w/ 3pass VBR, audio 224 as default

D2S does it for you.

There is a Max value box (default 2530). So your max bitrate will be 2530+224=2754 which is below 2756.

Also, the Max average value will not be exceeded (default 2230), so the third CD will not be completely filled (you can see in this row 2391 as the available video bitrate for 115 min 3x74min CDs, using 224 audio)
