Has anyone seen a high quality MPG2 codec for realtime capture ?
All the quality MPG2 encoders I have seen are stand alone or plug ins. Non can capture.
MPG4 realtime is not a problem, so why no MPG2 ?

I believe Intervideo WinDVR and the ATI MMC can capture in MPEG2.

Thanks RB.
Any idea how quality compares with CCE at DVD bitrates 5-6Mbits.
I tried WinDVD about 6 mounths ago. Quality was not as good as Xvid.
Any idea why most Mpeg2 encoders are stand alone. With computers now so fast, whats the problem. CCE can encode at triple realtime. So what gives.

@Owen,

I have already used ATI MMC to capture MPEG2, however, the quality is far below as of CCE. It is just on the limit to archive broadcasted TV programs or VHS tapes.

However, PowerVCR also hs this feature, and gives much better results - though still not catch up with CCE. 6Mbps should be giving nice results - based on your taste, and no fast action scenes :-)
