pva files

Hi all.
I'm using progdvb with my skystar2 board. I want to join 2 files recorded in pva mpeg files. How can i do that?
By the way anyone knows how can i change the strange size of the recordings of progdvb? I try to find in the menus one way to change this settings but i didn't find anything.

PVAStrumento can join multiple PVA/MPEG files and create PVA or MPEG out of it. But maybe they have to have the same resolution, never tried it by myself.
And you cannot change the resolution of the recordings, its not ProgDVBs fault, its the way the stream is broadcastet. If you want to change it you have to reencode it after recording.

Matthias stopped the development and support for ds.jar and wants nobody to provide it anymore. So we are not allowed to put download links into the open forums.

But you can use MPEG2toVirtualDub by Jory Stone (see Sticky), after the converting process just close VDub and load the avs into cce or tmpeg...if you like to get a SVCD or DVD. Just load first MPEG file and add the second (hope it works with pvas, but I think so) Then the program demuxes using pvastrumento does a resize...

I'd advise you to do an extended search over the net ... if you really want it ;)

Ds.jar works BETTER than pvastrumento & Co. It has a better error management and it perfectly synch audio and video.

For example if you demux using DVD2AVI (or other prog), when you find a broken frame, you'll get a small delay of audio. In my tests, in a 2hr capture you can get a lot of bad frames, so audio will delay about 5 or more seconds.

We all get errors in reception. PVAStrumento and DS.JAR can mitigate these problems.

PVAStrumento is 'very snippy' in my opinion. That is cut,chop,hack
fell,drop, at the slightest problem.

Can we have a statement by Matthias as to why he no longer wants to do his thing that he does the best?
My guess is that he has been snapped up by some commercial organisation with a misguided view of digital tv recording.

Thats the good thing on pvastrumento. You can immediatly see if something is wrong with your recording. I would never use a stream where pvastrumento reports an error. (except for the first and last frames) I have tried this many times, if pvastrumento reports an error there IS something wrong at this position.

But well, that doesnt mean its better than ds.jar, i use ds.jar with the same succes on streams with ac3 audio.

I do not expect perfection in my recordings. I know both ds.jar and PVAStrumento will both log errors in their 'view' of a recording. The question is what to do if an error is found!
DVBMatt knows best, in my opinion. Some errors are too short for the human response. However PVAStrumento may throw a fit about it. Perhaps it would be better to gloss over minor imperfections in a program stream by playing the previous picture or sound for a few milliseconds rather than dropping the whole Group Of Pictures for a minor fault.

Here is my 2 cents. The Software DVD player authors know all the tricks regarding DVB audio synchronization. Most times they work.
Occasionally PVASrumento or DS.JAR is required for playback. If the authors of PVAStrumento would offer the same facilities of DS.JAR then they would have a world monopoly on digital TV reception improvement as DVBMatt has moved on to other things.

I have also tried to demux just using DVD2AVI, trying to keep bad frames (both audio and video), but on long streams I get a very bad desynch (at the beginning all is OK, at the end there's audio very late).

Sometimes bad frames crashes MPEG2DEC3 so another chance is using Nic's MPEGDECODER that handles a little bit better broken streams.

Instead DS.JAR drops only very very bad frames, and corrects as better as it can.

You might also try the Nic's newest MPEG2DEC3 v1.0.8 thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=53164). It has better support for busted streams. (and a lot of other stuff)
