I do not own a dvd-burner and a i am tring to get a friend to burn me a dvd of my music vids. Although i am an experienced .avi encoder, i know very little about mpeg and dvd video, so i would like to know, what is the best way to do this? Any guides, links, ect would be great. Thanx
(I am just trying to get a few video files, each as its own chapter, with one opening scene that will play before a menu of sorts that will link to the seperate music vids.)

I take it you didn't do a search of this site. IMHO this is the best site on the web for guides and the software links to use them
Yes, you really should read the guides (http://doom9.org/mpg/dvdr-guides.htm)
There are many, MANY alternative options for achieving your stated aims, but rest assured that there are plenty of simple ones.

I have looked at the guides to publishing a DVD but they all tell you how to take a DVD source and change it into mpeg and then put it on a DVD, but what i need is to know how to change .avi (xvid) into .mpeg2 so that i can publish that to the dvd. I want to be able to convert the .avi to .mpeg2 with as little loss of quality as i can, and i also need to keep the aspect ratios for all the clips. None of the guides that i have seen, will tell me how to do this. The simpelest method is the best, although quality is more important.
If you want simple then use Canopus ProCoder or TMPGEnc to resize and transcode to MPEG2 in one step. Remember that you should not upsample your framesize to full D-1 (720x576 PAL / 720x480 NTSC), as such interpolation is a waste ot processing time, will not increase detail levels, and will only consume more bitrate during MPEG2 encoding anyway. If anything, you should consider dropping the framesize slightly, since your X-vid footage is unlikely to conform to the DVD spec's permitted framesizes. Also quickly glance over this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=53990&highlight=arky+SIF) for a little more discussion on smaller framesizes for DVD.
Also remember that your Audio must be made compatible with the DVD spec. This means it needs to be:
(PAL) 48khz, wav format, or MPEG2-Layer1, or Dolby .ac3
(NTSC) 48khz, wav format, or Dolby .ac3 (MPEG2-Layer1 is incompatible for NTSC)
Once you have transcoded and resized your X-vid into DVD-compatible MPEG2, and your audio into your chosen format, you can use a cheap DVD authoring application, such as Ulead DVD Workshop, Spruce Technologies SpruceUp, or MediaChance DVDlab.
More help is available here if you need it.
