View Full Version : multisegment capture causes vdub to crash

Hi guys,

this time I'm out of answering this question by myself...

I did a fresh system install (winXP_SP1 and an athlon xp) and configured all as I like it respectivley as always. The main reason was to test the new radeon [capture]drivers (ati drivers don't like to be updated - in my experience it is better to setup a fresh system).

Everything works like a charm expect one thing though... Vdub is crashing in capture mode. It took me a while to figure out what causes the crash... no one will believe me - I'm sure - it is multisegment capture!! Trust me, I tried everything I could think of to solve this weird thing but nothing has helped so far... and I know how to set up vdub correctly to capture ;)

If I disable multisegment capture I can capture as hell but I get an error if I enable it (sorry, I'm at work and can't recall very well that error). I tried every vdub version, so it must be my system but I can't imagine that it's due to the drivers (or anything else).

Has someone ever made similiar experiences - cause I'm out in that case ;(

thanks for any helping input...

with kind regards Sill

Were you able to capture in multiple segments before the fresh install? Have you tried deleting all of VirtualDub's registry settings?

Also, I don't have XP, but a friend told me that you don't need to use multisegment capture with XP & NTFS. He regularly captures 10+ GB files with no problems.

thanks for your answer fccHandler,

yes I was able to capture in multisegment capture mode. Deleting the reg_keys is one thing I should try... can't do so at the moment... I'm still at work.

about NTFS (I know that their is no filelimit in general but )... are you sure about the 10 gigs??? what about the 4 gig barriere of avis??? never tried it by myself.

what I like about multi_segments is that you can so easy edit every single file or treat them as a unit... just as you like ;)

thanks again... I will see if del_reg_keys may help

cheers Sill

My buddy said his captures are fine, so I guess VirtualDub is capturing in OpenDML format. Yes, I know that even OpenDML isn't meant to support files that large, but he swears it works OK.

OpenDML AVIs have no filesize limitation. You can easily capture a 100GB file with VDub + NTFS
