viewing *.jpeg files

a couple years ago, i scan a couple of comics, cause i knew i would want to read them again, and burn them on a cd, back then (win98), i could just highlight the files i wanted to view and drag them into Internet Explorer and they would all load in order, but now (winme), when i do that, only one would load, so it's just a bunch of drag & drop.

if someone could tell me how to edit my registry, configure IE 5.5, or something, it would be appreciated.

I can't help you with your problem, but I think it is probably due to IE, and not your OS...
Maybe you can change the behaviour in IE?
Maybe also try pressing the shift, ctrl or alt key while dropping the images, maybe there is a shortcut...
You might also try the freeware-viewer Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/).

Irfanview was also my first thought here - lightning fast & it will cycle through all the files in a directory at the press of your spacebar (or turn of your mouse wheel) - fullscreen, zoomed, whatever.

thanks for the suggestion, but i rather stick with IE, i just don't want to download/install a new software just so i'd be able to view a jpeg the way IE should to able to (backspace to go to the next picture)

there must be a fix, just like the time mspaint wouldn't accept jpeg/gif files.

well, just show in ie the directory three and browse to the folder of your pics....

but my god how can you see jpg with ie ???

irfan is free, light, has plenty of features and doesnt need installation.

Although, like the other contributers, I won't get it, why the hell you insist on using IE to view JPEG files and don't use IrfanView instead I will give you a little tip that might work.

Just mark all JPEG files you want to "view" with IE and press ENTER - if your JPEG files are still associated with IE as the standard application then it should work. If not, open Windows Explorer and go to "Extras|folderoptions|filetypes" and assign your JPEG files with IE again.

One last remark, I also don't like programs that install thousands of DLLs all over my system but IrfanView is different it doesn't install anything you can even get a ZIP file of it at the download section on the webpage. You can unzip it and place it wherever you want it to be on your harddrive and just create a link to it yourself (and the installer version will only do these steps either). You can delete this pretty gem of a program by just deleting the folder and its contents. And it's only about 900 KB "big" - yes KB not MB!. ;)

But if you still insist in using IE - then ... go ahead. ;)

i already know how to make a jpeg open with IE, the problem is that, for every picture i open, another IE open for it (ie. 20 pictures = 20 IE). why can't it be like it uses to be: 20 pictures, 1 IE

Because IE is not really suitable for viewing Pictures.
It is slow, uncomfortable and has no options to fit pictures to screen.

Ok back to real, seems you have to start IE, go to "Extras|Internet options|Advanced tab", scroll down a little bit and tick the "Open links in the same window" option - must be right above the print section inside this options list. (As I only have the German IE here - the translations of the menu items are just a rough guess though, so don't count on that!)

Now, there should only be one instance of IE for "viewing" your pictures - at least when using my method described above. ;)

is there any differences between IE and IrfanView when viewing a picture? if i wanted the picture to fit screen, i would have uses that stupid Image Preview program that came with WinMe and can't seem to get rid of.

you can use mozilla/firebird which has an auto-fit feature, and then if you click the image, it toggles full size/ auto size.

using mozilla will also give you tabbed browsing, ad block, smoother scrolling with the mouse wheel, and no activeX security threats.

If you're stubborn - then so am I. ;) I guess, WinME comes with IE 5.5 - right? - So please do the following:

Open your control panel
Double-click your "Internet Options" or just "Internet" icon (depends on IE version)
Go to "Advanced" tab
Tick the "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts" option - it is disabled by default

Now it should work for you as in the past.

And as I'm stubborn too, I just want to tell you that you can use IrfanView to view your pics in original size too, you can configure the picture display options in every which way.

And IrfanView can also put out a *.html picture slideshow for you - just go to thumbnail mode, mark all pictures you want to have in your slideshow and use the "Save selected thumbs as HTML file" option. You will get a HTML file with clickable thumbs completely indexed - and with a complete navigation set - doesn't that sound good to you? ;)

IrfanView is very powerful.
Some examples of Keyboard shortcuts:
<F> fit image to screen (windowed)
<Enter> Fullscreen
<L> or <R> Rotate image Left or Right
<ESC> leave Irfanview
<Space> next image of actual Folder (Image order can be defined by date, size, name etc.)
<Backspace> one image back.

There are a lot of more features of Irfanview, like batchprocessing or a slidshow, so just give it a try.

Adobe Photo Deluxe, PaintShop Pro, Sound Forge, and Cool Edit are great programs, but i still got rid of them all, cause i'd prefer simple programs like Goldwave and MSpaint and it doesn't even matter how small IrfanView is, i still prefer IE.

If you find it difficult to use, or don't like it for some reason, then you can come here and post why.

As everybody has been trying to tell you, IE isn't really good to view pics.

If you only want to view pics and not edit, Irfanview is the perfect program. Simple and good at it's job.

since you can resize selection with mouse you can cut and paste images .
