Hi I just got pinnacle studio 8 as a fathers day gift and I was wondering if it has the same features as instant copy 7 which I already have, and that I havent installed yet because I don't want to cause any software clashing since I got instant copy and dvd decrypter to work so well together to make all my dvd backups ,and finally is it better then ic 7 to make back up copies?... :p

Studio 8 is used for editing and saving to various different formats with captures from a camcorder etc... You would not use this for backing up DVD's, that is Instantcopys purpose.

I have both programs on my computer, along with DVDDecrypter and CCE and Maestro and DVD2ONE and SmartRipper and you name it and they all coexsist quite nicely...

Word to the wise: Get the latest patch for Studio8. It is a classic Pinnacle program, buggy as hell. Even though I got the upgrade version when it was first released, I kept using Studio7 until the 4th patch was released.

I'm now using Studio8, version 8.5.21, and it has been working quite well although there are a few little quirks that one has to deal with...for example on my rig if I don't click on "Settings" in DVD tab before I click "Create DVD" I get errors. I don't have to change anything in "Settings," I just have to open and close it prior to "Create DVD."

As MIJ said, you're going to use Studio to capture, edit and burn home video to DVD. You would never use it to backup existing DVDs, be they data, commerical DVD or home movie DVD.

My $0.02...
