Hi!
I recently decided to do a test on the cheap media "Princo 2x" ($25/10) i use and name brand "verbatims 2x" that i recently bought ($75/10).
The movie was Harry Potter 2. As you might remember if u have this movie, the intro bit (not part of the movie) is a flash back to Harry Potter 1, using Pinacles Instant Copy v7.1.1 i had to burn all extras to the lowest % wich was 30% and the movie to about 70%.
Now, i burnt the movie to both media and tried it out, the Princo copy got all choppy at the Intro bit that automaticaly plays before the actual movie and eventually crashed.
As was expected, because usually when i burn extras at 30% i dont want to watch them so i dont care if they crash or not. There just there to save me the time of using IFOEDIT ect. and keeping the structure of the DVD.
So i thought crap! now im going to have to redo the movie at a lower percentage and beef up that intro bit to about 50%. Then i remembered to try the Verbatim ... and guess what ... the intro bit not only worked flawlessly but it looked pretty dam good! For 30% quality i was bloody impressed!!! You can try this out yourself.
Also, i was recently going threw old copies of movies that i have on Princo/Shintaro 2x media, and guess what, they work fine .......... until you get to the end of the movies when it starts to get choppy :| Now i know this is the dye failing on me because i usually watch backups right after i back them up! I have also noticed that even data that i have backed up on DVDs wich used to work now seems to be dying (after 2-3 months). I get retrieve some files of the DVD but others seem to be gone forever.
I also did a sunlight test on a PRINCO 2x, and it lasted four days, thats in AUSTRALIAN sunlight, just left by a window.
So anyway after experiencing what i did with the 30% quality improvment, i have been converted forever.
That extra $3-4 per DVD will save you heaps of $$$ and heartache in the long run.
