To me is slows down and skips a lot of frames at one point at the beginning if decoded with ffdshow.

Same here. That may be due to the use of GMC during encoding.

My build is a comparably stable development build ( lol ) from koepi, dated 5th April.

Could you investigate it and try to find the source of this strange spots. I mean, if it's there with standard options too? So we could bother ffdshow or XviD developers. Regards Lobuz

I never saw any grey spots on my system sorry, so its hard to investigate what might be wrong. One explanation i have is that i was using the 'packed bitstream' option, which is reported to be broken. Reason for this is that i plan to convert the movie to a 'native' MPEG4 matroska file later, and we will support packed bitstream earlier than dx50 VOP mode it seems. Could this be the reason ? Or maybe the 5-b frames i was setting at max allowed ?

I reproduced that stuttering bug. And looks like it's cause "packed bitstream" option ( I think it's not recommended ).

Because I couldn't demux it I loaded it into VirtualDub with Avisynth - DirectShowSource function. Decoded with xvid yv12 no postprocessing.

But it was works only with CoreCodec MatroskaDemuxer. With Gabest's Matroska Splitter there was runtime error(tryied 1004, 1002, 1001 versions ).

I couldn't reproduce that gray spots bug.

Edit:
Added:
That Runtime error appeared while I was trying to play it in MPC. But file loaded into VDub with infinite number of frames and couldn't stop while compressing.

So, finally I found the cause of these gray spots. It's because of combination of qpel + B-frames + packed bitstream. If it's together ffdshow(libav) can't decode it proprly. So the solution is to not use packed bitstream, or use much slower XviD decoder.

I tried the Star Wars sample with ffdshow-20030523.exe and the latest version of Gabest's MatroskaSplitter but the picture doesn't get resized in any player. Do I have to install anything else or isn't ffdshow-20030523.exe the latest version? Did I forget to activate anything in ffdshow?
I have an Athlon 1,2 Ghz, 256 mb RAM and a Geforce 4. My OS is WinXP, no SP.

You cant load the file in VdubMod, it doesnt know how to handle the AAC audio stream ...

EDIT :

I was pointing Cyrius to this thread, and it seems he will have a little surprise for us matroska guys for the next VdubMod release :D :D !!

I loaded it with avisynth and DirectShowSource(), so it used directshow decoder. With MatroskaSplitter it was somehow buggy but with MatroskaDemuxer it was OK. So I could reencode it and reproduce that bug.
