Stretching CDs further in D2S

While still trying to stretch my CDs even further to fit more video, and following FitCD's author suggestion, I disabled "Add SCVD scan offsets" and "Align sequence headers" in advanced options for bbMPEG in D2S (it is a little tricky since the GUI does not allow to do this while in a SVCD, but you may ultimately edit the INI file).

However, I always end up with the last CD image shorter that the others, with some unused space, which makes me think that D2S is not taking into account this extra space when calculating the VBR bitrate.

I would like to ask @DVD2SVCD to include this feature in a new version, but wanted to share it with all of you before to see if it is really applicable.

Gertie67 found a better workaround:
You can in the "bbMPEG Output Settings" disable "Align sequence headers" by selecting "~DVD", disable it and change back to "SVCD".

In a previous version of the Q&A stands that DVD2SVCD takes these both options into account. There is some unused space because DVD2SVCD use not the possible 797 MB per CD, it use only 795 MB when you choose "800" in the bitrate tab for safety reason. But you can set the cd size to "802".

I think using 802 won't do, since it is only the last CD the one with spare space. The others are already filled, and increasing to 802 will require overburn... It may work, but still the last CD would be shorter.

I did a "controlled experiment". I reencoded the same movie, changing only the "Add SCVD scan offsets" and "Align sequence headers" parameters (caeteris paribus), and I got about 8-MB more of free space, about 0.5%!

And YES, D2S *does* take this into account, sice it increased the VBR from 2065 to 2076, exactly 0.5%, on the 2nd run.

The 802 MB it will work without overburn, but - you are right - the last CD will be shorter.
This must come from the bitrate calculation. The code therefore is from an older version of FitCD. Probably there are some constants for muxing and/or authoring set to low.
But you can calculate the bitrate with the actual FitCD version and set the avg. BR as "Min. avg." AND "Max. avg.".

Depending on the length of the video and how many disks you have chosen, there may well be a situation where DVD2SVCD would have to break all SVCD standards to fill it up. You did not mention what your bitrate settings were in the bitrate tab. What value in in MAX? DVD2SVCD will not exceed that value. If a full encode done at that max value would not fill all three disks obviously the third would be less than full.

BTW, I may well have misunderstood your post so if this elementary suggestion is not correct please forgive the intrusion.

It is not about the obvious problem of last shorter CD because of the BR settings. Sorry for not having given enough details.

It just seems that @arlsair is right. FitCD calculates a higher bitrate that D2S. I have tested 5 movies now with the same results.

I am testing right now whether his "solution" of forcing the bitrate in D2S gives the expected results. I will post it then.

For now, I can only say that I have taken a suggestion seen on other thread and I increased to 82 minutes the capacity (820-MB) with overburn. It works even on cheap 80 min CDs.
