View Full Version : Wrong Timecode
I have demux a .vob in one .ac3 and one .m2v, but when i import them in DVDLAB, that show me incorrect time : 00:-59:-59 in the assets windows and also on the chapter time line, and in the preview windows it's 00:59:59, so i can't import my chapter list because that not the reel time lenght of the movie !
Any idea and help ?

That is the *exact* problem I am seeing as well...As a matter of fact I wanted to use the VOB's directly w/o demuxing to fix my audio sync issues...and now I am stuck regardless...because it works fine so long as I do not add any chapter points, but when I do, the external players get all confused because of this scrwed up timeline...
I have sent a bug report to the author...hope he will fix it soon...
if anyone finds out a fix, please let me know as well...

There is no bug, look around for threads about timecodes. It is common practice to start a movie at 1:00:00, and to have a 2 second blank area called the pre-roll. So, the timecode quite often starts at 0:59:58

MPUCoder, I do not have my time staring anywhere near that 59 min range...
I get all sorts of wierd stuff like on one clip I made on my Philips standlaone recorder, it starts correctly at 00:00:00:00 and goes fine till 00:09:21:00 and then restarts at 00:00:00:00 and then resets again at 9 mins and 11 seconds...
On the second clip, I ripped a chapter from a movie, the timecode starts out from 10 mins and 13 seconds and then goes up from there...Now that may be fine (not quite, but tolerable), but for the simple fact that the chapter in the movie I ripped from does not start anywhere around 10 mins and 13 secs...
Also, when I set my new chapters in DVDLab, the show fine on tnis wierd timeline, but when played back in the final product, they are wayy off and some of then do not show up...
i found a possible solution, i use Restream here (http://shh.dvdboard.de) , that soft can change some part of a mpeg2 header, i try it and it seem to work for my .m2v.
Now the lenght of my .m2v is right !
But why must i do that ?, normaly the ripped .m2v must have the same lenght of the .vob !?, no ?

I had the same problem with ripping tools and re-encoding again.
This problem happens when I play the backup movie on my player, when it still seems fine on my computer. The main problem is the ripping tools mainly in 2 cases:
1) Ripping with stream editing. The tools re-write the .VOB files including wrong timing informations. When you separate the stream to m2v, ac3 and sub files wrong info is still there.
2) Ripping part of the movie, especially from a 2 - layer DVD. On change of layer, time goes zero and I had a lot fo problems.
Solution:
I rip in backup mode the whole movie in my disk, and use DVD2ONE to do the rest of the job. DVD2ONE does not have that problem

the latest version of dvddecrypter (http://www.dvddecrypter.com)
can patch the first GOP so the time is 00:00:00:00 instead of 00:59:59 or use restream or pulldown.exe to reset the timecode

I use the latest version of dvddecrypter, pathced the time of m2v and still had the same problem with time on 2 layer DVDs.
