I just want One Large Mpg

hey all. thanks for looking at my thread. what i have been doing is using dvd2svcd to re-encode my dvd's. i then use isobuster to rip out the mpg data from the bin file, filtering only the mpg data, so i wind up with a pure mpg. the reason i do this is because i use my modded xbox as a stream node and stream the mpgs off of my pc which i guess you can call a media server in this case. when i do this (through a program on the xbox called xbox media player), i have to choose both of the (or 3 dep[ending on the size)mpgs i got from isobuster and add them to a playlist to play one after the other. this results in a skip and pause of about three seconds as the program changes tracks. i want to have d2s just give me one big bin file or one big mpg if possible. or shopuld i be looking at another application to give me just one big mpg? (i did try to jopin the mpgs with tmpgenc, but for some reason, the resultant file came out with that familiar pixelated green screen. any help would be appreciated as always. thanks a ton!, falcor

Hi falcor,

If you have checked "Don't delete any files" in D2S, it is very easy:

- Run manually Runbbmpeg.exe (under bbmpeg folder in D2S path)
- Load settings "bbMPEG Movie Settings1.ini" (in your movie folder)
- Select Input and Output Files (audio, video and output mpeg)
- change Max file size in "General Settings Tab"
- click start

Be aware: If you are using WinXP, you have to use the patched bbmpeg.dll, search in google (http://www.google.com/search?q=bbmpeg%2BXP%2Bpatch)

OK, i am a little confused here, i will not have any bbMPEG Movie Settings1.ini until d2s has done its whole thing, at which point, i will already have the two or more bins created, no?:confused:

So, what happens if you manually type 9000 into the CD size on the bitrate tab for the line that is appropriate for the timeline of your source? If memory serves me, I think that was what others did but I may be mistaken. Hmmm, do a search in the advanced forum, or perhaps here on some keywords. I seem to remember a how to make a dvd type thread from some time back but not well enough to suggest the keywords to you. You did do a search before posting, right? :)

hey guys, thanks for your replies. @Ddogg, i followed the link that you posted http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28017&highlight=how+to+make+a+dvd and applied all the settings therein, and i still got three mpgs. (and i really did search on this ;)) my d2s log follows. @jsoto, i can still use a post processing solution to achieve my results, if i have3 to, i was hoping to do it from the get-go though. anyway, i was wondering, if i make the cd size in the bitrate tab like, i dont know, 10,000 or something stupid like that, will that give me what i want?...hmm, probably not, huh? that would just bump the bitrate for the first 50 minutes of video up astronomically, cuz what i want to be able to change is the minutes of video per disc value, and attempts at that have resulted in errors from d2s. i feel like this should be a really simple thing to do, what am i missing? thanks, falcor

uh, why does it say 3 cds? I think you did not change the correct timeline to 1? I would think if you change the line that applies to your length of source to 1 CD and make the size a large number it would make only one? I have not done this before but that would make sense to me. Also, select make no images and do not delete files.

don't make the cd size 1024, make them whatever size you want...if you want it to fit on a dvd or something make it 4300...that was DVD2SVCD's original suggestion when the idea first came up, but it turned out it is correct to use 4300 instead.

ok, what i've done, but not tried yet is to set all the cd sizes to 2100 (three cd's worth to be safe) and all the "use quantities" (how many cd's) to one. hoping to force the d2s to make one mpg on one cd 2100 megs in size (theoretical of course). this should work, no?:sly:

ya know, for what i wanna do, (stream the vid to my xbox from my pc) divx would work too, and, if i understand correctly, divx takes up less space on the hdd with no quality loss. i am just not as familiar with gknot as i am with d2s. is it worth looking into for my purposes?:confused:

divx would work too, but svcd is more portable....
for the cd size tab, set the first tab (0 min to MOVIESIZE+10 min) to be whatever size you want, the rest you can just leave alone...so if your movie is 1 hour i would set 0-70 minutes just to be safe

i have found that when i try to dick with the minutes values, i get an error message from d2s, saying something like "bitrate settings are not fucking cool" and " do you want to use default settings" <==adlib mine. when i say no, it just keeps saying it till i change the minutes settings. so, i tried /\ what i said above about setting the cd size to xxx and it seemed to work as it created only one demuxed mpg. the thing is, for some reason, when i play the one file, it starts off fine, but if i try to ffwd it loses sound, then wont regain sound till i restart the player app. no matter, i am using dr.divx right now to cnvrt to avi and hopefully get a smaller file with no qual loss. BTW what do you mean by "more portable?" peace falcor

okay, heres where my head is at: i wnat to svae one file (divx or mpg doesnt matter) with the smallest possible size whilst still maintaining good quality. i have been able to do this by using d2s at these settings:

with some modifications to the bitrate to give me the one file as opposed to two or three, then taking that one mpeg and running it through dr.divx to give me one medium quality avi, half the size of the original mpeg which looks pretty damn good . the thing is with this technique, is that it takes like 4-6 hrs for the d2s and another 6 hrs for the dr.divx. so we're talking 10-12 hrs for a divx file. i know that life is full of comprimises,time for quality quality for space etc, but how can i have my cake and eat it too? can some of you gurus point me in the right direction? i want a decent quality 2 hr dvd in a single file about 1.2-1.5 gb in size that takes about 4-6 hrs from rip to play. am i on friggin drugs, or can this be done? :sly:
