HELP! Video Compression error An unknown error occured (may be currupt data)

Every time I try and encode any vid file to Xvid I get this error..

HELP! Video Compression error An unknown error occured (may be currupt data) (error code 100)

Thats trying to do Xvid 2 pass, if I try 1 pass quality, it works ok.. Divx etc works fine as well..

But I can not for the life of me work out whats wrong..

Ive tried unintalling and reinstalling all codecs.. updated everything I could find.. yet nothing helps :(

System is a..
P4 2.8gigz
512 meg DDR 333 Ram
Win XP Pro

Anyone have any ideas ??

Well, if i'm not mistaken it's even in the FAQ:

check the location you give for your stats-file (in the advanced options).

You might just want to give the Reset to defaults button a try ;)

I couldnt find anything in the faq about it :(

And in the Adv Optios the Video.stats file is set at \video.stats

Changing it didnt make any diff..

As for the reseting to default,. that didnt do anything either..

I have the excact same problem, every time it gets to the 2nd pass it just crashes with that error. I also tried using the reset button and it didn't help.

Mine does it one the 1st pass.. click Save As AVI, then the dir to save it, then straight away I get the error..

But if I try any of the 1 Pass options it works, just does it on the 2 Pass..

Hm.

You won't listen, right?

- hit "load defaults"
- choose a proper location for your *.stats file. I.e. D:\video.stats
- if you're not using one of my recent builds, disable "hinted ME".

If you don't try that at least i'll issue strikes.

As I said I tried all that..

The ME option has always been disabled..

I set the stats file at C:\video.stats

The most I can get is it works for a couple of seconds, then the error pops up..

for example you have a range of ending credits from 1000frame to 2000 frame.Does the crash happens when the this range is being encoded?or does it happen as soon as the 2nd pass begin?I am asking because for some reason the same mistake happens to me when I encode the credits

Nope, I dont get it then, I cant even get to the 2nd pass,.

It shits itself on the very 1st pass,. click save and within 1 second the error pops up..

Found a way around it..

Use AutoDub

http://rackspeed.he.net/~adntat/dark/

If you dont know what it is, its an auto Divx/Xvid maker..

Very easy way to do, and Xvid works fine for me with that, try it using only Vdub and its crap..

Yea I know, but the funny thing is that Autodub uses VDub to encode the Xvids.. and works perfectly..

If I try and do it manually through Vdub it craps itself..

Anyway, what I wanted to point at is that the AutoDub installer could have changed your AviSynth version. Otherwise I guess the different version of VDub could be the reason it now works.

I had the same problem. Like Koepi sayed load default/new stat location fixed ist for me. What u also can do, go to hint file and give the full path to a file called hintfile.mvh. U must u exact that name, seems a bug in the older version. in the new version hint is always hidden , so perhaps u update your xvid version and a old setting remain. ;(
