View Full Version : extraction mpg from Ulead DVD MF 2.0

i created a vcd using Ulead DVD Movie Factory 2.0. I'm trying to extract the video from the .DAT file. I've tried using ISOBuster (v.99 through 1.4) and it always locks up. I can extract it using VCDGear, but when I try to demux the .MPG file with TMPGEnc, it only demuxes the first chapter.
Does anyone know how to extract the .MPG and then demux the entire thing after having used Ulead DVD Movie Factory 2.0 to make the VCD?
thanx in advance for any help.

Problem posts (always!) belong in the Basic forum.
Not quite sure what this has to do with DVD2SVCD but anyway...
Get VCDEasy (doom9.org dowloads page). In the tools section under the MPEG Scan tab there is a utility cdxa2mpeg. Select your dat file from the CD in your top box and type a filename for the mpeg file. Once the mpeg file is saved to youy HDD try demuxing the new file in TMPG.
Good luck!

@liquiddecay: Does your problem actually involve DVD2SVCD (the software) or is it a more general vcd topic? If so, I'll move it to the VCD Authoring forum.

@UltimateDBZ,
this post doesn't have anything to do with DVD@SVCD, I just didn't know where to put it. It has nothing to do with authoring/encoding. the closest thing it ressembles is ripping (since i'm trying to "rip" the .MPG from a vcd). I looked at the forum topics, and in retrospect, the best one I would consider appropriate is the general discussion forum....sorry.

This one is a bit tricky to decide just where it belongs, but I think it fits better here than the D2S forums. Let's give this a shot.

most vcds have more than 1 chapter (music01.dat, music02.dat, etc, or aves01.dat), unless it's one big *.dat file, with selectable chapters then i don't know, anyway, use vcdgear (dat -> mpeg) to extract each chapter (if there's more than one), that should be it, then demux each *.mpeg in tmpgenc
i think i belongs here [(s)vcd forum] cause they're creating a vcd or maybe a dvdvcd; why else would anyone need to demux a mpeg, except to convert the audio 44mh -> 48mhz.

this is one big .DAT file with selectable chapters. I've tried VCDEasy using the Cdxa2MPG tool and get the returned error as:
"Cd2xa.exe execution failed. unknown chunk id. (This is not an MPEG file with a RIFF header [.DAT file])"
then I've VCDGear and the disk keeps spinning and VCDGear says searching on its progress bar. In the warning section, it states "Specified .DAT file has an invalid XA header signature."
I cannot copy the .DAT file to the harddrive either. So now i'm kind of at a loss as what to do now.
If you cannot copy the DAT file to harddisk it means your CD cannot be read. Possible cause, bad burn, scratched etc.
If you can read the CD properly, then using VCDEasy, you can rip the whole CD using ripping tools. It will extract the MPG file for you which you can use in TMPGEnc MPEG Tools to demux.
In VCDEasy you need to configure your CD Reader first by going into its settings otherwise, it won't be able to read your CD.
