Gah. Can't resize on playback?

Hey guys I'm sure this is something simple but I can't find the answer to it. I have some xvid encodes, installed the latest ffdshow, and xvid codecs, and the video plays fine in media player, but when I try to resize media player, or put the video in fullscreen, the player resizes, but the video stays the same small size in the lower corner. Am I missing something?

1. try zoomplayer or TCMP.

2. it could be related to overlay problems. try changing the desktop bpp (from 24 or 32 to 16), changing the desktop resolution, try a newer driver for your display card.

post the results here such that others can benefit as well, with as much relevant details.

Okay zoom player just crashes when trying to open the movie with it. Bsplayer though works. I tried changing the resolution with the same results. It just doesn't want to seem to resize, though bsplayer I can make the window as big as I want and it plays in the full window. I tried messing with the resize options in ffdshow but they didn't change anything.

I've got 4 other machines here that work just fine. Seems to be only this machine. It's a fresh install of w2k pro, gforce2 agp with latest detonators. Really nothing other then sp3, office xp, and the latest xvid/ffdshow filters have been loaded.

I've never seen a video do this. Tried 4 or 5 xvid encodes and all the same. I click full screen, it jumps to full screen, then with the first scene change it reverts back to the encode res, in the bottom left hand corner, while the player stays in full screen mode. Really odd.

Any other details you need or that you think would be helpful?

it still sounds to me as an overlay problem.
did you try changing the desktop colors? (32/24/16 bpp)
you could also try older nvidia drivers.
the resize with ffdshow WILL work, but you need to make sure it's actually used to decode your clip, and that you exit the player and open it again after changing the resize options.

the fact that bsplayer plays well only support my notion, since it is more 'stand alone' than other direct show players. the most stand alone of them all is mplayer for win32 (check out this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=52335). there's a link to a newer build towards the end of that thread).

Here I have the same problem, the Xvid files just open and then crash, I can´t resize them, I have a GeForce2 too, so maybe the problem is with the card or the drivers, I´m looking forward to install new ones and then reply back.

It doesn´t happen with the DivX files...

So Far there are the things I´ve found, it looks like an overlay problem for me, most about subtitles, I have VobSub 2.23(my favorite) and SubtiDS, so I removed them both, and my videos played quite well ZoomPlayer 3.00 or WMP 9, then I reinstalled SubtitDS and OGM subtitles worked fine on ZP, but when I added VobSub the problem appears again, it seems like a problem between VobSub and SubtiDS, the matter is that I need them both so may Gabest Should Say someting about.

Hey I am having the same problem with Divx5.05 and Xivd content with both WMP and MPClassic. I have a Radeon 7500 running Win2kpro with DX8.1 . I think it affects all Directshow apps b/c both WMP and MPClassic are affected but Divx player is not. When I disable "Keep Aspect Ratio" it strecthes the picture at a 640x480 in the lower left hand corner of the screen so I am thinking that DirectShow (which is a part of DirectX right?) is just running in 640x480 for fullscreen. So it's not just the NVidia chipsets.

Does turning off "overlay extended mode" in DivX decoder or "Use overlay mixer" in ffdshow helps? I couldn't resize without aspect ratio with it turned on.
