Hello, Friends,

This question evolves Gknot, but essencially is a VirtualDub question.
I always encode my DVDs into Xvid through Gknot. I use version 0.28 beta 2. As many people here know, VirtualDub Mod is there.
After making my film, I want to split into 2 or 3 700Mb files in order to put them on CDs. I make it using VirtualDubMod. The problem is that EVERY TIME I try to open an AVI file just made using Gknot 0.28, get a message asking to correct the header of my file, because I used a VBR audio (I use Lame MP3). And it ays that if I correct the header VdubMod will introduce many second of erroneous skews in the audio.
I'd like to know how to solve this problem, because I need to split my files without having them dessincronized audio with video (which are happening).

Thanks in advance,
Dihelson

"always" encoding your DVDs with GKnot sounds like you know what's goin' on inside the appz... but your question is kinda [sorry] lame!!! :sly:

please have a closer look into the given FAQ... and in case you won't find what I'm willing to tell you...

I tried to opened a avi file I get a message "VirtualDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during processing for better compatibility.". What does that mean?

It means your AVI contains VBR (variable bitrate) audio, usually mp3. Neither VDub nor AVI supports this, writing it into AVI is a hack that can lead to troubles (namely inconsistant desync and uncompressable video frames). If you want to know more about this hack, read the IRC log in the VDubMod FAQ (#14).

Ok, I understood VBR audio is bad, so what do I do when I want to edit AVIs containing VBR audio?
Clean solutions:

Transmux the whole file to a container format supporting vbr audio and edit that (eg Matroska, OGM).

Save AVI with uncompressed audio, do your editting, recompress audio

Demux audio, recompress to cbr mp3, remux, do your editting

Hack solution:

Use NanDub or VDubMod (NanDub compatibility mode). I heard its a bad idea to try to recompress audio on the fly using this option.

---------------------

my advice for you: read first, ask after thinking!! ;)

a general answer...
GKnot uses BeSweet for AC3->MP3 conversion... your resulting .mp3 is a "vbr-one". After everything is done GKnot takes VDub_Mod (able to handle vbr_mp3) into account to multiplex audio & video. Resulting file = *.avi with a hacked vbr_mp3 solution.

beside of that... why don't you use GKnot's split function to split your files?? Ever used to have a look into the GKnot-Guide?? ;)

cheers Sill

Sorry for asking this question, and Thanks for the answer: "Just say NO". It worked. Simple! :) I thought it would cause extreme trouble, letting my AVI jerky...etc... NO! nothing, it plays good when I simply said NO, don't mess with my file header.
thank you all guys, and appologise for questioning these.

My best regards.
