View Full Version : Strange performance breakdown in ProCoder. Help needed...

Hi,

I tried out the ProCoder (1.01) for Mpeg2 encoding in order to compare it with the Ligos encoder I used till now (unfortunately CCE doesn't work for me - no SSE CPU... :(). For a test I encoded a 4 minute DVD trailer via AVS and Link2. At the beginning of the conversion I got very good performance (near 11fps on my machine) but after approx. 150secs encoding time (30% of the movie length) the encoding performance suddenly breaks down to less than 5fps. At the same time CPU load decreases from near 100% to only 30-40%. I tried various settings but no help. It happens in both, 1pass and 2pass-VBR. I have no explanation for that behaviour - can anyone help please?
I have to say that no other progs are running at the same time and my machine should have enough memory (512MB@550MHz).

Thanks for any advice...

Link2 is limited to max. 5fps unless you buy it. Use ffvfw instead.

@sh0dan

Yes, thanks again! You were right - I didn't notice the shareware restriction of Link2. ffVFW works without speed problems!

Thx and bye
