Divx 5.05 incompatible with XVid codec ????

Hi guys,
Yesterday I installed Gordian Knot 0.28 and System Pack 1.1. I ripped a DVD and it worked ok but the movie wouldnt play. No matter which player I used I ended up with the error message "(player x) produced an error in xvid.dll" (or something like that).
After uninstalling xvid altogether, the divx movie worked.

Did anyone experience similar problems and is there a solution?

The thing is that the only player that works in this situation is Divx Player 2.1. It works fine, but there is a big drawback: It doesnt support switching between different audio streams.

Is there a way/plugin to use it like bsplayer?

Just use ffdshow for playback guys. It plays everything and better.

Thanks for the hint concerning ffdsow.

It wasnt THE answer, but incidently led to a solution. While checking the settings of the ffdshow codec I found out that the error stopped to occur, when I uncheck the "Use DIVX" option in ffdshow.
Regretable, when I think of all the good things I hear about ffd, but the most important thing is that my players work again.

Does anyone know what's causing this discrepency in decoders? Until DivX 5.0.5 I was lead to beleive (and found that it was true empyrically) that both XviD and DivX followed the MPEG4 standard well enough that once encoded they were more or less interchangable. In fact, I beleive that the XviD site claims that they are forever working closer and closer to the actual MPEG4 standards.

If this is true, doesn't this mean that DivX is moving away from being fully MPEG4 compliant?
