HELP, Horizontal lines all over the place
I am fixing up an old anime (audio and video).
But i just realized after hours and hours of work that i see LINES when I put it on my big screen TV. there all horizontal and noticable EASLY on my PC screen but not as much on a regular 30'' screen but obviouse on pc screen and 47''.
The left is Before and Right is after (Several filters being used)
( I have put all the pictures at the end for better viewing )

To see the lines zoom in to the right side and they become quite obviouse.

Here are the settings I am using in virtual dub to improve the quality
is what i used with Virtual dub.

I suspect it has something to do with interlacing or deinterlacing but I don't know what that is...

Hope one of you experts can help me.
Thanks in advance.

if you want to see the high quality pictures
just copy paste the url and replace the .jpg to .bmp (but there around 500k a pic)

I have added a sample, I have removed audio and encoded it to Divx and make it a short clip to be easly downloaded.

Sample Video (Save as and play it) (http://home.golden.net/~charleyso/sample.avi)

What you are calling "lines" are actually stairstepping (jaggies). This is happening because you are deinterlacing by throwing away a field. When played large the stairstepping becomes really obvious. You need to retain as much vertical resolution as possible by using an adaptive deinterlacer.

Thanks for your reply.

I thought i was putting it side by side ?

Unfold fields side-by-side is the setting i used.

What other filter would you sujest ? (this is the one that came with virtual dub that i used)

Well, I was a little quick to reply! Too quick.

You are actually doing a blend deinterlace. The unfold/fold just allows you to do spatial filtering on the interlaced source.

Can you post a short source (unprocessed) frame. I want to see how much stairstepping there is in the original.

You can try Smart Deinterlacer. :) Or Gunnar Thalin's area-based deinterlacer. Both will keep as much vertical resolution as possible.

Origional Sample (http://home.golden.net/~charleyso/Origionalclip.mpg)

Sorry for the delay i couldn't upload anything to my ISP after a lot of trial and error i realized that my limit was exceeded so i removed the clip posted before. and now there is only this one.

By the way the source was a Betamax tap and an ATI all in wonder 8500 was used to capture it. I would of recaptured it but the tapes have degraded even future (tracking would go nuts and you wouldn't even see picture at some point) so i was stuck to fixing these clips.

Could you please explain the difference between the regular deinterlace and the smart deinterlace ? (I don't know much about video sorry) and were I can get this filter from.
Same with Gunnar Thalin's Area based deinterlacer.

You're hosed, then. It will never look good on a big screen.

Same with Gunnar Thalin's Area based deinterlacer. [/B]Refer to my website link below and look for Smart Deinterlacer and others.
