Hi folks. I have a problem when I try to encode a dvd with XMPEG and XVID. The problem is this:

As you can see the image is in some way deformed, oblique, and I really don't know the cause.
When I encode my dvds with the DivX codec I don't encouter this problem and all goes perfect.

If anyone could help me I'd be very grateful...

Are you sure you configured the aspect ratio correctly in Xmpeg ?

Ps.: Xmpeg&Xvid work fine for me,...

Did you try with a MOD 16 or MOD 32 resolution?
Does it work?

I've just noticed one thing.
Welcome to the board :).
Perhaps you don't know what a MOD 16 resolution is.
The resolution you are working is divisible (verticaly & horizontaly) by 4. This is what I call a MOD 4 resolution. I remember some old encodes with divx 4.12 that worked pretty well with MOD 4 but won't play very well especialy with ffdshow.

Please try 16 or 32.

Thanks guys, the codec seems to work with mod 16. Now I'm trying with mod 8.

Careful with MOD 8! It can increase your filesize.
It has something to do with the number of macroblocks necessary to encode the picture.
Before archiving perform a few tests with MOD 8, MOD 16 and MOD 32.
Assuming that macroblock size is 32x16, I believe the effect drops out at MOD 16 vertically and MOD 32 horizontaly   .
Can someone please confirm this?
(EDIT)
Browsing through this wonderful explanation by H (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33497&highlight=macroblocks+XVID+mod) you can conclude that macroblocks are 16x16 so my guess is that effect will probably disappear at MOD 16 resolutions, BOTH Horizontal and Vertical.

btw if you use Win98:
Windows 98 is no longer supported by Xmpeg. One of the most important reason is the fact that 98 scheduler is crappy with multiple threads application. Sometimes it may crash for no reasons. MS don't support the system now and I don't see any reasons to waste my time supporting one the most worst Microsoft OS.
Sorry for those which use W98. Remember that an XP license is very cheap now, and Xmpeg will be faster.
Recommended configuration :
P4 2.8GHz Hyper Threading (AMD have issues with Proc. rating now : 3200+ is equivalent to 2.6GHz Intel - See www.tomshardware.com)
512 Ram
Windows 2000 SP5 or XP

Encodes should work fine even at resolutions with mod4 or mod8, personally I think it's a bug in Xmpeg,..

Ps.: I also would recomment to use Nic's Decoder instead of ffdshow,..

I use WinXP and Nic's decoder...so the problem was mod 4.

After thousand of requests, Windows98 is compatible with XMPEG from the Release Candidate 2 version. ;-)
