Capture Playback Software???

What is the best software to us for playing back a video capture?

I have tried both Zoomplayer and Windows Media Player. The PQ is just not as good as I hoped. While just viewing the video it is fine, but loses PQ when I play back the capture. I have tried Huffy and PicVideo, which PicVideo is better.

Surely there is another type of software that does this better.

Well its not Zoomplayers fault in the first place, its the capture settings you are using, or you are using a old codec(while playing right mouse within zoom, filter properties will tell us your decoder). You can use ffdshow that has alot of added filters & noise options to improve a bad capture. You didnt exactly tell us what resolution you where capturing with what codec at what bit rate or quality settings. The easiest way even for a newbie to find the best settings is to use high bit rate or high qualitys to the limit of your system then back off to prevent dropped frames. If you dont have a fast enough system you might should do it the old way use huffyuv or picvideo. I'm sure Dooms guides have covered this thru & thru...

reubenray, it's hard to understand what exactly are you asking. can you please give a detailed descriptions of te steps you took, the desired result, and the actual result you've got. give the WHOLE process, with every little detail you can think of. codecs used, decoders used, versions, etc.

Here is what I am looking for. I am capturing with the Xcapture card via VitualVCR. When I playback the capture I either have to use WM9 or Zoomplayer. I have tried using just about every option for filters with them both to get the PQ I had while watching the preview. My system is AMD Athlon XP 2000, A7N8X Deluxe MB, Radeon 9500 Pro.

The PQ is just not as the preview, so somewhere I am losing it. I have used Huffy and PicVideo. PicVideo seems to be just a little better.

What I am trying to find out are there other programs that I can use to view the capture besides WM9 and Zoomplayer?

wmp6 (Windows Media Player 6.4 = mplayer2.exe), TCMP (The Core Media Player by blacksun), MPC (Media Player Classic by gabest), BSPlayer, mplayer for win32, and many others. you can even try virtualdub, as a testing platform. and avisynth (sort of) as well.

Hmm... I'm guessing that you are trying to play the video file that you directly captured? When I do that it looks aweful because the file is still interlaced and lines appear all over the place.

Recently I've been looking for a real-time deinterlace filter that I can use when I need to play back this way.

640x480(576) or greater when using Picvideo with q17 or greater. The re-encode the final output with divx/xvid with a deinterlacer(some need added filters).

320x240(288) or 360x240(288) Xvid 1 pass hiquality 94 will get you a 1hr 1gig file, reduce the quality for smaller size. Normally you can just delete commercials & just fast recompress with 94.

All the while using non compressed audio its always best to do the audio last to prevent sync issue. Bec sometimes you can reduce the audio with compression or lower the freq to allow a file to fit. Sometimes you dont even need to compress it. Some prefer AC3 too or equiv someday... Besides audio doesnt normally take long to compress even with mp3 or adpcm, as long as you direct stream the video in virtualdub...

One setting that did get reset on virtualvcr in early betas was the non autoconfig video device settings under video proc amp. Sometimes virtualvcr can be convenient for simple stopped timed events. While using virtualdubvcr for start timed events but xvid at my settings has always worked fine. You have a similar setup like mine as far as system. Sure wish I had a xcapture and a SDK bec it would be nice to work on a mpeg2 good capture program, powervcr has audio issues, which are unexceptable for music videos.
