DVD+R is supposed to have slightly better data verification, whereas DVD-R tends to be more compatible and less expensive. I go with DVD-R for the less expensive aspect. The speed is up to you and how much money you want to throw around. Personally I'm using the Toshiba SDR5002 which has a 2x burn speed for DVD-R's and a 1x speed for DVD-RW's. With price being my main consideration, I have the Ritek 1x DVD-R's and both have been extremely reliable as long as they're burned slowly. As far as best price, generic DVD-R's are the cheapest, however I've always been a little bit wary of generic stuff for burning. Princo and Ritek are among the cheapest of the name brands. I'm sure there are other fine ways to go, but mine is one of the best from the budget perspective. See what works for you. Check out http://www.cdrinfo.com/ for some more reviews.

DVD-R does tend to be a bit more compatible but there are loads of dodgy discs out there i have tried a few different sorts (datasafe, datawrite, white label, bulkpaq) which have all turned out to be not reliable at all as for ritek they burn ok but i find they give choppy playback on some players like they will play ok in my pc but are choppy on my ps2. Trying to find the right media for yourself is an expensive task.

Get a dual format drive. Lots of models/manufacturers to choose from now -- Sony, NEC, TDK, Verbatim, CenDyne, etc. In a few more months, LiteON and Pioneer will have dual format drives as well.

as for the dual format drives - i was thinking about those, but i thought that i'd probably end up burning on eformat most of the time, so i wasted my money for support for the other format. any thoughts? ansl, is there a projected time for Dual Layer DVD Burners to be sold?

There won't be any red laser dual layer DVD burners as dual layer DVD discs are pressed and not burned.

Well, I have a dvd+r burner and as it looks I'm missing a lot of trouble other members have. Especially with dvd-r ,panasonic and Princo.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong but my copies work perfectly and still work and have untill now one coaster because I did not listen to the program.
I feel quilty.:D :D :D :D :D
