Hi there!

I was trying to make a copy of my pearl harbor with dvdshrink and somewhere when it is calculating the compression levels it just stops and says "dvdshrink encountered an error and cannot continue this operation. no error."

What the hell is this?! No Error?! I can't continue! Could it be a damaged dvd? I can't see nothing wrong in it!

I'm also trying to make a backup of my LOTR special edition (4cd's) but only of the film. My problem is that I want to put both dvd1 and dvd2 in one DVD-R (only the movie files). Does anyone know how can I do this?

Thanks!

I did the LOTR Ext version to one disk about 2 months ago. I used DVDDecrypter to rip both disk (movie only), VOBEdit to join the two VOB sets then IFOEdit to make new .IFO files then IFOEdit to Get VTS Sectors, then IC7 to compress the video, Ran Get VTS Sectors again because IC7 had the chapters all screwed up and then burned it with ImgTool v1.00.4. It came out alot better than I thought it would. Good luck.

Here is a link to a guide for joining 2 vob sets Here! (http://ifoedit.wh.fr0zen.com/joinclip.html#joindbl)

Using VobEdit to join two discs didn't work for me, at all.

Everything was fine until I went to set the chapter locations for the cells from the second disc.

Did you rip in file mode movie only? Did you run Get VTS Sectors in IFOEdit after bulding new IFOs? I found that by not running Get VTS Sectors in IFOEdit my chapters were not correct. It took me a couple trys before I finally got it right...

I will try that movie this weekend and let you know how it comes out...

Did you rip in file mode movie only?
Yes.

Did you run Get VTS Sectors in IFOEdit after bulding new IFOs?
Yes.

When you create new ifo's with IfoEdit, it just arbitrarily makes a new chapter for each cell. When I went back to set them manually to the correct locations, that's when I discovered that the chapters in the portion which came off the second disc COULDN'T be set properly because the cells weren't right anymore.

It turned out that this was caused by using VobEdit to join the vob files. If you want I can dig up the thread in which this was discussed. So I merged all the vobs into one huge vob, and THEN used VobEdit-Join to split the vobs up. This worked fine.

What did you use to join all vobs to one? What was your complete process? I am interested in learning this myself...

i did LOTR ext 2dvds to 1dvd-r
with cce 5 passes...and imported the assets into scenarist tweeked it a little so theres no black frames between the 2 parts and burned.
the video quality is excellent and cant even tell where the 2 are joined.

But how much does Scenarist cost? And CCE? And you lose subtitles.

Personally, I chose to split it to two DVD's. The quality is PERFECT, untouched. And all the tools I used were free.

FileMerger You can find it on doom9's "Useful Software" page.

I will try to make a guide for you. I found all the info on here but it was scattered all over.

you DON'T lose subtitles with scenarist - since i work at a tv station i use the station equipment - without the bosses knowledge.
but CCE was a little over $2000 and scenarist is in the 5 digits.

you DON'T lose subtitles with scenarist mrbass says in his guide for dvd2dvdr that Scenarist has a bug which messes up the subs. I really wouldn't know, personally. My motto is: If it's free it's for me - if it's five digits it's for someone else. :)

That would be the most likely case as the great majority of DVDs (including The Matrix) are originally authored using Scenarist, it handles subpictures just fine.
