I want to burn a DVD-R with Nero via foolproof-method (UDF). Why can I only write with 1x speed instead of 4x as highlighted in the preferences?!
The program always changes that when trying to write to a DVD-R.
Any way I an make it write 4x speed as is stated?

Perhaps you are using media which your burner does not deem worthy of being burnt at 4x :)?

i think he means that your dvd-r are 1x and can be only burn at 1x or i could have totally mis-understood what smiller667 said; also aren't demos* limited to a burn speed of 1x?

* i'm not said that your versions a demo.

I don't know anything about the DVD-burning capabilities of nero, but maybe this "foolproof-method" is the reason?
Sounds like they may have restricted it to 1x, to play safe...
Just an idea...

Why don't you try DVDDecrypter for burning? It will tell you how fast your media can be burned...

Nero comes with a hard-coded expiry date unless you activate it by registering.

but my nero came with my computer as part of the software package and it is registered. so why do I still get only 1x speed?
and you're right it's only with DVD-RW mediums...

2 things:

1) have you updated nero to the latest version? ( i think it is 5.5.10.28, but you can check at their homepage anyway)

2) are you sure those RWs you have can be written with any other speed but 1x?

Filmfan - If you have an activation number for Nero, you could go to their homepage and dl the latest upgrade. The upgrade comes with the whole installation package. If they didn't give you a key with the program, which is common with demos and factory installs, below is a toll number at which you can contact Nero support (US). Derek is extremely knowledgeable, and does a little recreational work of his own. Wish I could be of more help. All of the responses in this thread bring up relevant points, and I could certainly tell some horror stories of my first D2S rips with a Nero demo version. Even after I had purchased the full retail version, the demo left traces in the registry that ambushed me repeatedly. Ouch! Has the search turned up anything relevant on DVD burns with Nero?......ammck55

ohh :D ... well anyway, just a short note on updating a factory install. i have nero installed from the day i got my computer and have never had to enter a product key. it was installed when i got it and i'm just updating every week or two as ahead is really quick in bringing out each new update.
so if you have nero installed just dl the update (around 13 megs) and run it. it will update your nero automatically.

there are no 4x-DVD-RWs on this planet yet
