i capture using firewire and use adobe premiere or vegas 4 to capture.

when i try to capture a few vhs movies the preview screen in premiere/vegas gets very dark. the output result is the same. it's as if someone turned down the brightness notch on the tv. sometimes, this darkness effect turns itself off goes back to normal during the cap. on most videos, i have no problem. i just have this occur every once in a while and was wondering if this can be fixed. i know it's the particular movie because when i try to cap a different one, it works fine. also, it's not the particular scene in the movie itself that is dark as this has happened when a scene is outdoors in broad daylight.

any suggestions?

i use winxp home, 512ram.

And the movie is ok on the TV ? Or is it as dark as on the computer ?

well the output is dark as well for these movies. that is, if it caps with the preview screen dark, the end result is dark in both tv or computer screens. if i disable the preview screen, this happens as well.
my biggest thing is that it sometimes just gets dark for like a minute or so and then it goes back to normal.

i finally found out what the problem was, i think. apparently, some vhs movies have some kind of macrovision protection. either that, or something that prevents them from being capped normally. i use the advc-100 and had to disable the macrovision protection on it in order for the movie to be capped properly. now i'm just totally guessing on what the problem is but now these movies work just fine.

thanks for the initial help baronvlad!
