Im so fed up of my pioneer 104 drive, loads of problems trying to burn tried all firmware versions & 5 different types of media (bulkpaq, white label, datawrite, datasafe & some silver top discs that were supposed to be pioneer).

Its time to think about getting a decent drive but i come to the forums to find out which drives are good, theres 2 drives im thinking of getting at the moment the NEC ND1300A DVD+/- Dual Format Recorder or the Sony DRU500AX also dual format, does anybody own either of these drives i would really like to hear feedback on these & also what types of media are best.

I have 2 pioneer 104 burners with excellent results.

If I run into a problem its always the blank media.
The most imporntant thing is the media.

Some media called Maxell or Maxell OME is not true Maxell its junk.

You have to buy Branded media or you are taken by the online media sources.
I buy online by meritline. I use beall DVD-R by samsung cost 1.34 to 1.54 each depending on quantity. I have never had a coaster using them. In one order I received a 50 pack that was sealed and ended up being counterfit junk.

You have to be very carefull with the media. I am waiting on meritline to replace the 50 bad DVD`s. Their answer they were sent back to Korea for analysis.

Most unbranded DVD`s are junk.

I hope this helps

"bulkpaq, white label, datawrite, datasafe & some silver top discs"

You realise not one of the brands above are actually media manufacturers, so try some discs by a company that puts their name behind them. Ie. branded Verbatim, Pioneer, Maxell etc.

Pioneer discs are expensive as for maxell & verbatim i havnt come accross any at my local computer fares yet but i did buy some ritek g03 discs and they burned successfully but i always have choppy playback in my ps2 but plays fine on my pc. Im a bit fed up with being ripped off with dodgy media i thought ritek was supposed to be a good brand.
