Locked capture device with wmp9

I hope someone can help me out here.

Installed wmp9 the other day. After that, it is impossible to capture video, since the device is allready in use? (but its no in use).
Trying to open "Capture AVI" in VirtualDub, gives me above error.

I un-installed wmp9, rebooted, and viola! all back to normal.
So, my question - why does wmp9 lock devices, that arent in use?

OS used : WIN2000, SP3.
Cap Card : Leadtek Winfast A280 TDH MyVivo (using video-IN).

Hi,

maybe the wmp is launched in the background for faster program start with windows an then opens the device. You could check this via start -> run -> msconfig -> Autostart. Then uncheck wmp, restart and hope it will work...

thanks for you answer. Been there, done that. wmp9 doesnt seeme to load anything, in startup (checked for all users), or in this key :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

FYI, i have the wdm-drivers installed, that came orginal with the card (they work perfect).

Really odd situation, i mean plenty of users must have this problem - anyone else have a solution?

Hm...

I know that this wont help you much, but I think I have wmp9 running and also capture with VDub without a problem. Maybe you capture card (the wdm drivers) has a problem with wmp9. You could try the wrapper (Please look into the FAQ ~question 14 or so), I know it comes with XP but maybe the wmp destroys something.

Or you just get the zoomplayer or mpc and kick the wmp to hell :)

Does VirtualDUB work with WDM drivers ? I have a similar problem to yours with my NVIDIA GeForce 4400 MX - However, I can usually get VDUB to see the capture device in the graphics card if I launch first a capture application which uses WDM drivers (e.g., Intervideo WinProducer, which came bundled with the card).

Yeah, my card works perfect. Infact this card is even better both performande + price, from that stinky Asus-card i used to have.
Just to mention how good it performs. I capture at 720x576, using PicVideo MJPEG set to 19. Capturing 1,5hours gives me 2frames dropped, which is about as good as it can get i think? My earlier Asus 8200 Deluxe gave me ~25 frames loss, per 30minutes.

You describe a problem where you are forced to launch an app such as Winproducer. Yes, i used to have exact that problem, with my Asus-card, but not with this card. I can boot, and direct start VDub.


Update to my problem :

I re-installed, wmp9 today, booted the computer and crossed my fingers - It worked :cool: yay!

I'm not sure it had todo with the beta codec i came across from MS page, that made wmp9 encoded files work with wmp 6.4.

I just noticed new wdm-drivers are released for this card too, which im going to test later.
