View Full Version : Menu navigation in Maestro

After weeks of reading different posts on this site, as well as your superb guides(thanx), I managed to put my first DVD project together.
I used DVD2DVD-R to ripp and re-encode, and Photoshop to build the menues. When I finish in Maestro (before compile) I test the navigation with the built in tool and at this stage everything looks spot on. All menu buttons are 'alive' and work as expected. Yet, when I burn the DVD, I can no longer select some of the menu options or the wrong chapter is invoked.
I've rebuilt the project three times, no avail. Could someone give me a hint...

are you setting the navigation between buttons correctly?
please try to give an example of how some of the menu options are unselectable.

Well, I use default key assignments. Using PowerDVD on my computer selecting/deselecting the option works by moving the mouse over the titles. In the standalone player I use the navigation keys on the remote and as I move around each and every title gets selected (they highlight) or deselected. I have one root menu and 3 chapter menus. The issue I have is navigating between the menus!!! If I can select the menu I always jump to the correct chapter point. Very often, however, I jump to the wrong menu. I tripple cheked the connection points in Maestro and they appear to be OK.. when I test the navigation in Maestro it works fine. One more point.. this menu navigation issue is different between PowerDVD and the standalone player. Some menus that I can't seem to invoke under PowerDVD they work perfectly OK on the standalone layer.
Nevertheless, your point on the initial key assignments sounds very feasable...it's a very good point. I'm gonna try. THanks for the idea 'Enf'.:) :)

Just a thought here, but it might as well be the correct one.
Have u used any still pictures encoded as m2v video for menu stills? They r known to cause problems navigating.

YOU'VE GOT IT... I ripped the original menus from the disk I'm trying to backup (following one of your previous post where you suggesting to use VobEdit and SubRip to end up with the original m2v and the additional files. They're all still menues encoded as m2v files. I retouched the subpicture overlay to resize and align properly, that's all... so where do I go from here ????? Convert them to bmp???

Yes!
Download a small program named m2v2bmp from the download section of doom9 and extract the bmps. Use them in place of the original m2vs.

Thank you very much too, oddyseus. I met the same problem in Scenarist DVD production. I tried for three whole day on it, and finally I find this thread, I got it immediately. Thanks again. Tony.:
