There are a couple of threads in the DV area where I'm discussing the hunt for a good noise filter for DV dropouts. Here is a description of how dropouts affect DV:
The dropouts appear to be one line only with a little horizontal smear or inappropriate color for one frame. There is usually a similar distortion on the next field.
Some should be easy enough to sense with an appropriate algorithm. My test sample has a Caucasian face with dark hair. As the head turns, there is a hair-colored spot on the check for one frame. The four or five frame before and after it are all skin-colored.
I'm asking for guidance with the various dust filters which get discussed quite frequently. I'm not that familiar with them and am wondering if any might be particularly effective in filtering these single-frame corruptions. I realize not all dropouts could be removed but ones such as I describe in the preceding section should be fairly easy to detect.
