Hello,

I have a Pioneer 104 (firmware 1.20) burning Ritek G03 discs. 95% of them burn fine. I have a few every now and then that give me problems. They will not play in my Liteon DVD-ROM or in my standalone Pioneer DV-250. However, they will play in the 104 and also in an Apex 1100W. I am burning the discs at 1X only.

I am guessing its a bad blank every now and then, but not sure. I have noticed that it takes the burner a bit longer to recognize these bad discs when I put them in as blanks to burn on them. I am totally stumped.. Anyone else have this happen? Any advice is appreciated.

For burning, I am using ImgTools 1.04 to burn or I use ImgTools 0.89 to make an image then burn with DVDDecrypter.

Things it could be.

1. incorrect authoring.
2. dust on the writing surface before wtriting has begun.
3. bad disc.

1. That is not the problem because I can reburn the same files on a new blank and it turns out perfect. And the Apex 1100 plays the *bad* disc fine.

2. This could be a problem. I usually look at the bottom before burning. I keep them in the cakebox until I get ready to burn on them. I will start looking a bit closer on ones that take longer to be initialized by the drive.

3. I was thinking the same thing. It could just be a crappy disc in the batch.. But out of 2 100 packs, I get the same results.

I just switched from DMA mode to PIO mode. I hope that solves the problem. I usually hit a bad disc one out of every 10 or so.

Thanks for the help
