Pamel was being a little "tongue in cheek". We Texans like to think we are a separate country and many true Texans joke about withdrawing from the union of the USA. Hell, why not, we are twice, or is it 4 times bigger, than Iraq and we have a smidgen of oil laying around here and there to pay the bills. :)

i'm probably going to get flamed for this; but anyhow, if i lived in Asia (depending on location), i probably would have never came here and learn how to rip a dvd, cause i could just go out and buy a bootleg vcd/dvd* copy instead of going through the long & hard task of ripping, snycing, and burning.

wouldn't be a better poll, if you asks what there race was, cause for all i know, half of them could be asians** in other countries.

And then you probably would be very disappointed by crap quality of most of such DVD's.
Actually, I must say here that I learned a lot by ripping chinese DVD's. Every second title had one or more errors, and to get good quality rip I needed many experimenting and learning. One common error is that audio goes desync more and more as movie runs. I stated that they made audio for 30 fps, not 29.97.
Other thing is lack of subtitles, often even english sub is incorrect etc...

the best thing about chinese dvds, is the many, many, many subtitles (even though i only need 1); unlike most Hollywood dvds.

I'm an asian... from south east asia to be exact. The mystery of the missing asians is easily explained by the fact that for the majority of asians, english isn't our primary language. So, lurker to poster ratio is skewed.

Oh and about the quality of the chinese bootleg dvds, bad encodes are the least of your problems... many times the disc itself is a borderline failure. My friend once showed me a dvd with moisture trapped between the layers. :D (another thing, getting mucho subtitles is pointless if the quality of said subtitles make you hurl. No, this problem is not exclusive to the english subs.)


p/s... relax! Joking about asians from mars is hardly offensive. (much to be gained learning to laugh at ourselves, no?)

First of all to Doom9 and other moderators,I have searched the forum and found this kind of threads and also found some locked bcoz of being old.This thread is not as much old as others.(only 5 months old).And I could see large no of members are registering in this forum every month.Thus this poll is bringing up especially for new members.(Me too....)

vinks, extensive lineage says your from asia, but residency or citizenship says mars (or pluto on the outer regions). sounds like race versus residency. racial lineage could say many others things too with variability also introduce.

well, to be honest, i think a poll on "what languages do you speak" is probably more useful and constructive than "what continent you're from". so then at least the main doom9 site can use the results from the poll in getting more people to work/making better on certain translations :)
