hey,
i really like avimux_gui but recently i've had a few problems with it's accuracy when splitting up a file while muxing. I've entered a 'breakpoint' first at 703 MB. this gave me a file that was close to 705 - to big for a cdr. so i decided to decrease the size a bit and went for 700 MB. this way i was going to lose a bit of my credits, which wouldn't hurt too much anyway. the problem is that it still gave me a 705 MB file (for the first segment) then a 699 MB file and a small file with a few megs that was cut from the end.

so i wonder: could this be a bug in avimuxgui or a problem with my movie?
it's a divx 5.05 avi with 2 mp3 vbr streams.

it has happened to me three times now (i mean on three different movies)

thanks in advance

This could happen if you use a large keyframe interval, and try to cut at a scene of very high bitrate (so that there are 2 or 3 MBs till the next keyframe is found).
But a deviation of 3 or 4 MB is really a lot...it shouldn't happen
The next version will display a more detailed log, so that such issues can be investigated better.

actually i checked the keyframes and there were at least 10 in those 4 megs. it was rather a slow scene of a guy talking on a cell phone...oh well i was able to "fix" it by using vdubmod.

thanks for your time!

Mh...i found why it can happen with AC3 audio, but I still don't know how it can happen with MP3

thanks for the update... well i haven't ever experienced it with ac3 allthough i rather frequently use it. anyway, it definitely doesn't happen to all movies with mp3 i cut. the last 3 or 4 i did just turned out perfectly fine!

just an idea: could it be that this is somehow connected to the bitrate used to encode the mp3... i frequently switch between 96 and 128 kbit, depending on the length of the movie, compressability etc... i'm positiv it doesn't always happen when using 96 kbit but perhaps this is one factor....
