Okay, I did serach the site for answers on DVD burning. If I missed something that is on the site, I apologize.
I went out and bought the Sony DRU 510 DVD burner. I'm trying to write some VOB files I created through DVD Toolbox.
I installed it okay and then tried to drag and drop the files onto the drive. It ran for a few minutes, saying it was copying and then, fater about 6 or 7 minutes, it aborts - without any good description of why. I tried a second disk (DVD+R) - same thing.
I then tried the veritas software that came with it and it seemed to fall back to the same error the drag and drop gave me.
I do have Nero, but the DVD option is greyed out. Nero doesn't recognize my DVD Burner. The only option under "recorder" is "Image Recorder".
I did do an auto detect through Nero but it's looking for a Nero CD, which I don't currently have.
I'm pretty anxious to write these files and see if I can play them on my home DVD player . .
Any one have any suggestions on how I can copy these files to DVD? Forgive me if this is a stupid question. . . I'm pretty tired right now and probably not thinking straight either.

Check out the Foolproof Method (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19415[/url) and see if it doesn't help. There are know issues with the old "drag and drop", Nero doesn't seem to respond well to this procedure under certain circumstances. If I remember correctly, the link in this page that you'll be going to that points you to Daemon Tools is no longer working. Look around for a mirror, there's one in here somewhere. The search button will fix you up on this one, or post back for more help.

thanks. These are VOB files and IFOs etc. that I ran out of DVD Toolbox. I did try the dameon tools, which set-up a virtual drive . . which I couldn't move things to.
I don't think this is a SDVD I'm trying to make but rather a copy of a DVD.
It also seems this new drive is locking my system up at every turn. If I have a blank DVD in the drive, it locks up ALL the time, no matter what I'm doing - including rebooting.
Anyway, I did get it to write my VOB files by using my veritas software and telling it that the files were "data" - well, that didn't work when I tried to play the DVD on both of my home units.
So, a couple of questions. If I used DVD Toolbox to re-author my DVD, how should I go about copying those files to a blank DVD. I'm using DVD+R.
Maybe I shouldn't be defining my copy as a data copy?

just a quick thought: perhaps your DVD toolbox has an option to let you output to an iso file (CD/DVD image). this way you could just burn it using nero or any other burning software.
if this doesn't work you might search for tools that let you create an iso file from your existing vobs and ifos (etc). i don't know of any but i don't do dvd burning so that doesn't mean much i guess (:
oh and about deamon tools: this is a program to mount image files... so unless you do not have a .bin or .iso or maybe .cue file you won't be able to use it!

thank-you. I guess my challenge then is to write an image file from these VOBs, does that sound right?
My nero won't let me choose DVD for some reason. Anyone have any suggestion for how I can make a DVD that will play in my home DVD player, using VOBs that I generated out of DVD toolbox? Is there another tool I should use?

thanks. As I said in my earlier post, I had searched the forums. My issue kind of evolved, as you can see by the posts. I had seen this guide as well.
One of my issues was that Nero didn't recognize my DVD drive, asked for the Nero CD when I asked it to recognize the drive. Any help there would be great too!
As aways, I appreciate the help.

okay . . here's where I am: frustrated! I did write the VOB files to DVD (DVD+R) but it is not seen as a DVD.
Basically I want to be able to try out ripping a DVD and writing it to DVD. Once ripped, I have the VOB files . . and not sure what to do from there. Again, copying them as data files to the DVD worked, in that it copied them there, but is not seen as a DVD, per se.
Any direction would be great!

okay... here's what i am: annoyed!
please read the guides... you seem to not even have read the one i linked to! otherwise you would have known that you cannot just simply copy the vobs to your DVD-R and expect it to work on a standalone:
so here's some reading i urgently suggest you to do:
DVD backup guides (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvdbackup-guides.htm)
DVD structure (http://www.doom9.org/dvd-structure.htm)
Forum Rules (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm)

I did not mean that I was frustrated with your response. As always, I am very grateful for the help and instruction I receive here and I fully understand my requirement to read the guides and, believe it or not, I do try. I think the issue is that I don't always articulate my problem clearly enough - which is my fault.
I think ultimately, my issue was my version of Nero. I couldn't get it to see my writer - and, being new to DVD burning, I tried the VOB as data.
Either way - I did get a Nero upgrade that allowed it to see my drive. I've struggled a bit with media (Fuji DVD+R). I've since used some Sony's and now today, Maxell's - both of which seem pretty good.
Thanks again for your help -
Rich
