View Full Version : Audio sync with Winfast TV2000 XP

I am having audio sync with my Winfast TV2000 XP. I am running WinXP Pro with NTFS and the most current drivers. I am currently using the WinPRV app with Huffyuv. I choose PCM for the audio. The audio starts to lose sync after the file hits 2 GB size or 20 minutes.
Does anyone has any advice? I like the WinPRV but I am up for using other applications. I have tried VirtualDub VCR but never got it to capture anything.

try setting the file size to 1.9 gb? or 19 mins per part?
i was having that problem but i switched to PICVIDEO MJPEG with 18-19 quality the file sizes are really small and i still get great compression with divx 5

I am currently setting the file split size at a 1.5 gb. I will report back if it seems to work
Is PICVIDEO MJPEG something I can pick for free somewhere?
Or do I need to buy it?

as long as ur not suing it for commercial uses it is only 28$
but with the quaility on 18-19 the file sizes are WAY smaller! im sure anyone here would agree that it is almost as good. (and i do not have the HD space so i have to make due and use it but ill never use huffyuv ever again even if i did cause the quality is the same once u compress and resize. and even if u do not resize its hard to tell the difference. Really its all about how good your source is.

p.s. when i first started capturing i thought i HAD to have 100% lossless codec and i was wrong. Picvideo is near lossless and that is good enough.

I also have this card and have no sync issues. Make sure the audio is into your sound card line in and not the win card and use Vdubsync to record with not the software that came with the card. This is free and more reliable (find it here). As far as using PICVideo i do not see why, Huffyuv is far superior and as long as your manchine is fast enough not to be getting to many dropped frames this is the best, free way to go.
It should be noted that i do not use any of the card software which includes their dirvers i use the mod WDM Video Capture Drivers and the cd that came with the card as a location for my coffee cup.

Speaking of codecs,
I recommend the Morgan Mjpeg codec Version 3.xx NOT 2.xx.
Quality is MUCH better than PicVideo codec for given bitrate, but it also requires a much faster CPU.
I would say that Morgan is the best Mjpeg codec. Its as good as Miro/Pinnacle DC10/DC30 hardware compression. And thats very good.
At only 2.5-3meg per second for full PAL 768-576 res, quality is very close to Huffyuv. And its no stress to play it back or edit. Huffyuv can be very demanding on your system to play back.

HD space is an issue for some of us. and playback on huffyuv sucks! :-)

Have you ever used Morgan Version 3.x in "Floating Point" mode ?
You need a fast PC for this.
If huffyuv is rated a 10 out of 10 then Morgan 3.x would rate an 8 when a data rate of arround 2.5 Meg per second is used and a 9 if higher data rates are used.
The best rateing I would give PicVideo is a 6 (at a setting of 19).
If you have a fast CPU 2Gig + than Morgan 3.x leaves Picvideo in the dust.

As for sound sync, I have used many combinations of hardware and software over the years and always had some issues with sound sync. Sometimes it worked and others not.
That’s why Pro video capture boards have there own sound chip on the capture card , so both video and audio capture chips will have the same reference clock.
I have now upgraded to an ASUS P4PE main board with ADI on board sound chip and all my sound sync problems are gone.
I think that this chip uses the system clock for reference rather than its own clock as most other sound chips or cards.
I can now capture full PAL 768 x 576 to HUFFYUV, Morgan 3, Xvid or DIVX with no sound sync problems. 6 hour continuous captures to just one file on NTFS with perfect sync. Works every time. That’s over 24Gig in one file with Xvid codec in real time.
I have not tried longer than 6 hours yet. But I am sure it would not be a problem.
I’m using Win XP SP1 and FlyDS for capture with both a BT8x8 chip TV card and a new MSI TV@nywhere with CX 23880 chip. Both work fine.
A faster CPU may not fix the problem.
I was using a P4 2.8Gig on an ASUS P4S333 board with DDR400 Ram and Cmedia on board sound and still had some sync problems.
Just changing the main board fixed the problems completely.
So people, it is possible with the right combination of hardware and software.
