Hi Folks,

As GordianKnot offers no options to save directly to Matroska and I am now in need of two sound tracks with a single video stream (yeah, the first time I do want to backup those directors comments)... and I do not want to install the DS filters for AVI & multiple audio streams...
Is it a save way (and now I am talking VDMod) to encode those 2 audio streams within an AVI through GordianKnot, then load that into VDM and copy it with direct stream selected for all into the Matroska Container?
Maybe This was already asked and answered - but my search (through this forum, VD forum, Matroska HP, etc) hasn't come up with an answer to it... so excuse me If you just name me the Newbie I am :p and that I wan't a working answers from others - as I can only say: if it works on my 3 PCs how can I be sure that it work on others as well - as all 3 installs were made by me.... - but to be true, I have not tried out Mat. for now, just wanna know...

Sure,

just create an AVI from GKnot ( also including MP3 audio if so you wish ), and open it in VdubMod later with 'video' set to 'DirectStream copy' and add any other audio format you like in the 'streams' window.

Alternatively you may also use mkvmerger from command line http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/win32/mkvtoolnix-0.4.0.zip ....

Hi Folks,

Thanks Chris... mkvmerge, oops missed that one (and sadly your link isn't working: 404 Error for me)... But since I can do it via VDMod I stick to that ;)
(But as I read some things in other threads about MPeg4 and VFW transfers to Matroska - I keep the AC3s up until the time they got that true MPeg4 (extraction) from AVI (transfer) done - sounds (from my little understanding) better than to transfer just now)

Together with sysKin from the XviD team we are working on a tool to parse VfW MPEG4 streams and convert them to 'native' MPEG4 matroska streams. This will work with AVI, OGM and MKV on its input, and MKV on the output ( later maybe even MP4 on the output ) .... dont wait too long, or your HDD will get full :D !

Hi Folks,

Chris MKV->MKV... hey, haven't thoght about that possibility (my fear was that if I put it now in a mkv container I later have do to an back to avi then back to mkv conversion - so my choice was avi for the meantime :/ ) Well, always learning by false decissions ;) - and HD Space isn't that much of a problem - as this is just for this one TV Series... one of my all times (and probably my most beloved one) favourites ;)
