Thanks to the help I got from an earlier post my initial problems have been solved, but im now experiencing an audio syncing problem. I have been using GKnot 0.27 to try to convert a 16:9 pal 25fps movie into DivX 5 format with a single 160 kbps mp3 soundtrack. I am using two passes. The files that should be created during the process all seem to be there, are the size I have specified, and the log shows no errors.
However, in WinDVD 4, the audio begins before the movie starts playing, but after a while the video seems to speed up and the audio lags behind. Using DivX Player 2.0a, there is no sound at all. After several of these attempts, I opened the final movie file in VDub and noted the error message 'VirtualDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source avi file', so I searched for other threads in the forum with this message and deduced the problem must occur during the muxing of the audio and video tracks. My most recent attempt doesnt produce this error but still suffers from the problem described above.
I have tried to rip the movie with a variety of audio settings. For example, I read in these forums that VDub doesnt handle variable bitrate mp3 soundtracks well, so I have tried to to use the expert settings to specify a switch (-b 160 -h) for lame that was intended to produce a constant bit rate mp3. I also tried 'just mux', and 'finally mux'. None of this has fixed the problem.
I fear I am missing the glaringly obvious, and risking the wrath of all the ppl here who know wtf they are doing, but any suggestions woud be greatly appreciated. If there is a way to manually mux the .avi and .ac3 files (I must have had the 'delete .wav' box checked when I last tried as no .mp3 or .wav is present in the output dir) I'm willing to have a go at that too.
