View Full Version : two errors (virtualdubmod??)

hi all,

i know both errors has been reported in these forums, but i am unable to fix them

i using lastest rip and codec packs from gordianknot page (28.2 and 1.2)

i am using windows 98se (spanish)

1) gk 0.28.2 keeps asking me for virtualdubmod, the path is correct but it seems as it don't save it correctly, btw, i installed gk in c:\rip\gk (maybe this is the problem)

2) as i read in the forum ( http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=51906&highlight=videosourceavi )there is some problem with YV12 support,
i remember using .28 final correctly but with this new versions i got this error (videosourceavi error: the source image format is not acceptable. (error -2))

the problem is that i don't have this registry entry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32\VIDC.YV12

if i add it, it keeps crashing virtualdubmod

also using regmon (www.sysinternals.com) i can find this in the output

Virtuald:F6651F7B-QueryValueEx-0xC188FE40\MP4FIL32 - NOTFOUND

maybe the error is related to this ...

well,
thanks for you support!!

What value did you put in the registry key?

hi...

my register was in this way:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32]
"msacm.lhacm"="lhacm.acm"
"vidc.divx"="DivX.dll"

after reading the forum i added a new string in this branch

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32]
"msacm.lhacm"="lhacm.acm"
"vidc.yv12"="DivX.dll"
"vidc.divx"="DivX.dll"

i have divx 5.05 installed and i am using windows 98 se

but the virtualdubmod that gknot is using keeps on telling me the same error, if i open virtualdubmod normally and load the avs i am able to make full compression without problems

----
any hint with the gknot error about asking virtualdubmod path?? (remember i am using 0.28.2)

thanks!!!

hi lenox,

thanks for your answer,

i am using lastest gknot, (downloaded from sf) 0.28.2 beta

i delete this entire branch
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32

but virtualdubmod keeps giving me the error?
do you think is better to ask for support in the virtualdubmod forum? (i guess your answer is yes ;)

using filemon (another great tool from sysinternals.com)

i see:

Gordiank:FFF609B5-FindOpen-C:\RIP\GK\VIRTUALDUBMOD\VIRTUALDUBMOD.EXE - SUCCESS - VirtualDubMod.exe

so, it seems that the file is ok, but gk is always asking for it when i try a compressibility check

i've checked the CVS

if (not MainForm.rbDivx3.Checked) and (not VirtualDubModExeFound) then begin
MessageDlg('Please specify the correct path to the VirtualDubMod.exe',mtInformation,[mbOK],0);
enc_ready := false;
end;

obviously the problem is that in my case, virtualdubmodexefoud=false

any ideas?, do you want me to debug it? or you have hint of the error?

(maybe the upcase must be uncommented?)

regards!

ps. i've patched my exe, (4c2500=0xEB) now it works always :)

Wow! :) I never said you have to do that. On the option tab there
is a button "delete registry keys".

Anyway, get beta 2 (delete the keys) and try again...

it's _not_ the latest version... full stop!
(0.2.8.1546 is 0.28.2 beta _2_)

*EDIT*
if you say that you're using latest version one more time - you're risking not getting any more replies from me...

does this:

"RipPack Update 0.28-->0.28.2 Beta 2" or "GKnot 0.28.2 Beta 2"

not self-explainatory ?

I am having the same virtualdubmod problem even using the latest beta of Gordian Knot (0.2.8.1546).

I am using Windows 98 SE and I have tried applying the regfix suggested by another poster.

Could you please help?

/V

which problem exactly ?
(too many things were discussed here...)

I keep getting the
"videosourceavi error: the source image format is not acceptable. (error -2)" when trying to use VirtualDubMod from latest beta of GordianKnot (0.2.8.1546) and the latest version as found on http://sourceforge.net/projects/gordianknot/.

The error occurs with compressibility check and for encoding. I am to use VirtualDubMod to open the encoder script outside GordianKnot so the error must be related to the way that VirtualDubMod is launched.

BTW, thanks for open sourcing a great product!

Any help would be much appreciated,
V.

It's usual YV12 registry problem... search this and main forum for the solution...

hi lenox,

thanks for your time reading these posts,

well, as vern said, applying the registry fix in windows 98 se doesn't work

(I am using Windows 98 SE and I have tried applying the regfix suggested by another poster)

searching in this forum only leads to that fix, that at least for me and for vern doesn't fix our problem,

also i guess this is a virtualdubmod bug, or even our machines are very messed

but if anyone reading this has any hint about how to fix this error, (yeah, i know reinstalling win98 could be the solution) i would be eternally gratefull

thanks again!!!

Hi again (and sorry to be a pain)

Like anr, I have already tried in vain with the YUV12 fix. Maybe there is no fix and maybe it EOL for GKnot on Win98SE but it is always strange (and frustrating) when something that used to work is broken.

If anyone else have other suggestions I would be very happy to hear but as is, it looks like I will either have to
a) downgrade to earlier versions of GKnot
b) get another version of Windoze
c) start using Linux encoders.

All of the above would be a great shame as GKnot is an excellent product.

Thanx again,
V.

set this key to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Drivers32\VIDC.YV12

to divx.dll ot xvid.dll ?

P.S. make sure the key is Windows, not WindowsNT (this will only work for win2000/XP) I actually not sure where exactly Drivers32 key resides on win98, so you might have so search for it in registry if the path above is not found...
