well, price is 199 excluding VAT, which means 215-200 Euroes including VAT. Divx 3.11 support is out soon (as for all EM8500-based players). For about the same price ytou can get a Liteon LVD-2001 which has same features plus the PCMCIA slot.

PCMCIA??? are you sure? Does this mean I can plug in a Wireless card and stream media from my PC?

do you mean Memory Card (ie for digital camera memory) slot rather than PCMCIA?

Yes, pcmcia, no, no wlan cards. Just to quote the specs from http://www.liteonit.com/liteweb/lvd_2001_2.htm:

· PCMCIA Card Slot
· Support SD/MMC/SM/MS/CF Memory Card via Adapters

You can get various pcmcia adapters for different types of memory cards as accessories.

Well, are all EM8500 players as reliable?

I mean, I can buy the Woxter quite easily for 230 euros, more or less. I read that with the latest update, it works quite well, however, it could be marketing crap.

Any thoughts? I think Kiss players are also based on that chip, so I wonder... would this Woxter in principle be able to play almost as well as the Kiss players?

kblood. Take a look at my post if you get a chance http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55458 .

Just want to make sure everyone that is about to spend considerable cash on these products understand what's been happening with DivX \ XviD \ MP4 players. In regards to the EM8500 if a CE manufacturer uses this hardware and it works well in one device that does not mean it will work well in another device. For example Kiss has their own development team who help to optimize and improve code for their product so that playback and other features works well as it should. So the hardware may come to a manufacturer such as Kiss as "generic" hardware ready for additional optimization and work. Another manufacturer may just take it as is and decide to not do anything to ensure that it works well. For example DivX content is generally encoded using VBR mode and their can be spikes up to 6 or 8 times the average bitrate... the standard hardware may not be able to handle this unless it has enough memory and the code has been optimized for this sort of memory management and additional code optimization required for performance.

Thanks a lot for your interest. I saw your post right after posting mine.

I will definitely wait for some feedback and some experience from those who buy players.

I tend to be careful with my hard-earned money. So I will try to be strong and hold from going to get one of those right away, because the whole idea is sweet.

Your message certainly makes KiSS look better in my eyes. Seems to be a case in which the cash difference certainly matters. Maybe while I wait for the market to mature a bit, IŽll save for that KiSS DP-500... :)
